Chapter 1

It has been years since Kate had seen her grandparents who lived in New York. She was very close to her grandparents when she was little. She used to visit them on the weekends with her mother and had some very close friends there. Whenever she used to go there, she always used to enjoy her grandmother's food especially butter chicken. Whenever she went there, she used to always ask her grandmother, "Granny, can I have some food to eat, I am hungry and also I would love to eat food made by you." She always was delighted to eat the food her granny made. She used to play, study, and eat with her friends in the garden, near her grandparent's house. They loved to play in the grass and there was one old tree which they used to climb every time, they went there. She, along with all her friends went to the same school and used to go in the same bus, every morning. This was until her mother got a job offer in Miami.

One day, her mother, Jennifer, decided about informing about this job offer to Kate's grandmother. Kate's grandmother was doing her favourite work at that time which was preparing dinner for all of us. So, Jen went in the kitchen and just announced it right away, "Mom, I got a wonderful opportunity to work in an exclusive hotel in Miami. The job will give an amazing amount of salary and a room in the hotel itself." After hearing this, Kate's grandmother was happy but also scared because after that, it might affect their relationship and her relationship with Kate. This job will keep her busy and she might forget about her own wellbeing in the work and not even think about her daughter. But grandmother put her fears away and thought about her daughter's happiness and encouraged her to take this job offer. After some weeks, her job was confirmed and she, along with her husband and daughter planned to move to Miami.

Kate's mother, Jennifer, was into hotel business. She had managed the hotel lounge for almost 5 years and had a great experience with the costumers and the staff working there. The job which Jennifer had got in Miami, was an exclusive hotel, called Hilton Miami hotel, near the Miami airport, had a kid friendly lounge and had a bar at the very corner where kids could not see. They had some plays or skits planned for everyday entertainment for kids who were staying there. There were some people dressed as various characters from cartoons and certain kid shows.

Kate landed a few hours ago in the New York city for her book launch. This was her first book, and it was about her fantasy love story with a detective who was working on a case which could put his life in danger. She had come with one of her friends, Alexa, who had some personal work there. They stayed at a hotel which was a few miles away from the bookstore. The hotel was booked by her agent, and they were staying on the 14th floor. They entered the room and were greeted by the most amazing room they had seen in years. They both gasped and took in the amazing view. Their eyes were wide with surprise and amusement that they were going to live here for almost two days.

It had floor to ceiling windows, had wonderful white curtains and from the window, they could see the swimming pool. As soon as Kate entered the bedroom, she almost screamed with excitement and shouted, "Alexa, come in here and look," Alexa went there at once. Kate continued, "This is the most amazing room and is nothing like I had expected." Alexa interrupted her and gave a confused look, "What, are you serious? This is not what you expected? Then what did you expect? A room where there will be no electricity and would be as bad as living in a hut." Kate laughed and said, "Yes, because hotel rooms are never supposed to be this nice, not as far as I can remember. The last time I went to stay at a hotel, it did not even have a well-lit light. That is why, I did not have much of expectations from this hotel." But she had to agree, this room was beautiful and gorgeous. The mattress was as soft as a feather and the whole suite was so spacious. The room was a sight for the sore eyes.

They had reached the hotel at 10 in the morning and were tired from the flight. They both needed a good shower to relax themselves. Alexa went in the shower and after coming back, she felt so relaxed. Now, it was Kate's turn to shower. She finished and got a call from her agent. She got a little tensed but picked up the call anyway. She picked up the call and said, "Hello, please, this better be good." The agent was pretty excited and said, "Kate, I have some amazing news. The seats for your book launch are booked solid and I think, some famous writer might also swing by to pay the budding writer a visit." She got a new energy after hearing this news and started getting ready.

The book launch was scheduled for 2 in the afternoon. She had almost 1 hour to get ready for the book launch. She decided to prepare herself for the questions which will be asked during the launch. She prepared herself and started getting ready for the occasion. She had brought a beautiful blue dress for the occasion and had accessorised it with silver earrings and a bracelet. She wore her favourite white heels and was looking gorgeous. She turned to her friend to get her opinion on the dress and on how she is looking, and she was absolutely speechless but said, "Wow Kate, look at you! You look absolutely stunning, and you are going to crush this book launch." Alexa wished her luck and Kate took off.

As soon as she got in the elevator, she saw someone rather familiar. She did not quite recognise him at first but after a few minutes of constantly staring at him with a confused expression and narrowing her eyes which obviously made the person uncomfortable and herself, a little awkward and a little embarrassed, she tried to say something. "I am sorry for staring. It's just that you look familiar, and I quite can't recognise you." To which the stranger replied, "Yeah, actually, come to think of it, you also look somewhat familiar to me." After some time, they jumped in unison and started smiling and were so happy that they hugged each other. He was her childhood bestie, Ron, who she used to play like all the time when she lived with her grandparents. They got to talking and she got to know that Ron is now a real estate agent and was going to meet one of his clients who were a newly married couple. But she suddenly realised she had somewhere to be and got into a cab with a promise to catch up with him after the book launch.

She had the book launch at one of the famous bookstores in New York called as The Strand. Every book lover in New York knows that bookstore and visits it once in a week to get some peaceful reading done. It was near the Central Park, otherwise known as the busiest street in the city. There were many readers there and one of the famous writers were there too, paying the newest writer on board a visit. The writer was Annie Mathews, one of the famous romantic novelist and Kate had adored and read every book of hers. Annie's The Bad Boy Romance was one of her favourites. Kate obviously did not know that she was there to attend the book launch. During the launch, when Kate was signing off some of the copies, Annie came with the book to take her autograph and she said, "My name's Annie and I just loved your book." Kate was surprised after hearing the name and she immediately looked up to see the person's face. And once she saw who was standing there, she could not believe her eyes. She was speechless, star struck and was just staring at Annie in complete awe.
