I thought that moving into a big city would give you the opportunity in finding jobs easily. Because it won't give you much of a hard work in applying jobs since there are countless of working establishments, companies, businesses etc. lining up in the street that needs manpower and are always open for new employment.
There are lot of choices and lot of options for you, indeed. But the problem there is, their standards in employment are high enough that it would be hard for you to get the position you want or the job you dreamed of for so long.
Because believe me, this is the seventh-time of me applying for a job, and now, whatever position this company needs-I've no care anymore, as long as I get hired on that position then I would never asked for more.
Yes, I'm desperate already after that realization hit me, and you can't blame me because I really needed to get a job within this week. I have no more money-well, I still have some but in my calculation, the amount of money I only have right now is enough for my expenses this month. And I couldn't dare asked money from my parents for I know too well, that they needed money more than I am.
But seeing the expression of this company's Hiring Manager in front of me right now, I think luck was never on my side since the day I came here.
After clearing his throat and fixing his thick glasses, he placed my resume on the side.
"Okay, Ms. Guerriero. I was very impressed with your resume. I can see that you were an active student in your university. Your grades are satisfactory, and your skills are remarkable. But let me be honest to you, Ms., without any work experiences written on your resume, the rest information on it will never be mattered," ater hearing the last sentence he said, my eyes bulged and I curled my fists on my lap.
Is he kidding me?
Of course, I will never have any work experiences yet because I'm a fresh college graduate!
Is he dumb? Did he read my resume thoroughly?
If only these companies give fresh graduates a chance to work on them then writing work experiences on a resume would be just a piece of cake!
And why is work experience most mattered in hiring employees? Wouldn't they want a fresh graduate like me who have no work experience give a chance to prove themselves that skills, wit, hard work and dedication to work are enough qualifications to run and grow a business?!
Okay, before I can do anything that I would surely regret later.
I took a deep breathe, and smiled at him-it's a fake smile by the way.
"Okay, Sir, I understand. Thank you for your time," I said then leave the room immediately after he nodded his head.
Haist! Now, what should I do?
I uttered to myself in deep concern as I was having my way outside the building. When I reached the exit door, I looked above and my eyes widened when I noticed that there was a rainbow.
Now, someone above is reminding me that there's still hope.
I let out a sigh and smiled, redeemed my posture before continuing my walk towards the highway and grabbed a cab.
I think I need a cup of hot vanilla coffee. After all, I deserve it even though I failed again because hey, today is still a success because at least I tried, and I will still try until I get a job so that I could finally give back to my parents since it is now my turn to pay the deeds they've done for me to finish my studies and have a degree.
Yes, I know it's not a responsiblity of a child to pay back to their parents but for me I think, they deserves it, our parents deserves it. We can just think of it as a "token of gratitude" you know, for all the sacrifices they've done to us. I guess, it's not that hard right?
Oh! I missed them already. It's been two weeks by the way, since I moved here in this city.
Yes, I'm a stranger in this wide-busy place. I know no one here, and it's my first time to live in a city alone that's why when I first got here I literally cried for a whole night. Because I don't know what to do, I've no one to ask and no one to talk with. It was so overwhelming to me; the every day and night situation here was so different compared to the province where I grew up.
But thankfully, I learned to adjust and adopt in just a span of two weeks. Also, I met new people already and got a new friend.
Her name is Eury, and we live in the same apartment building, hints why we got to know each other. She also helped me adjust and suggested survival skills that I should master in order for me to last here.
I literally laughed when I heard the term "survival skills". But I must say that the things she suggested are really effective and helpful, and I'm really grateful that I met her.
And Oh! Speaking of-she's calling me right now.
I immediately swiped my thumb's up to on the screen to answer her call.
"Hello, Eury."
"Dahlia, where are you right now?" She asked from the other line.
"I'm currently riding a cab, Eury. I'm going to our favorite coffee shop. Why?" I asked in curiosity.
"Oh! You should come here in our company immediately because the Human Resource Officer just posted a notice that the company is now hiring for new employees in marketing and advertising management and that's your major right? And guess what?! They accept fresh college graduates with no work experience so you better come here quick because the hiring is limited only for ten employees! But oh! Were you hired this time? Because if you got hired then there's no ne-," I cut her off because of excitement.
Oh! This is an opportunity out of the blue!
"No, I failed again this time but thank you for informing me, Eury! I won't surely let this opportunity slip out of my hand! I'll be there in any minute. Thank you so much!"
When I ended the call, I abruptly told the taxi driver to change the route, and I couldn't help but to smile widely with excitement trailing over me.
Minutes passed, I finally reached my destination. Quickly, I pay the driver and climbed out the cab.
And due to too much excitement and worries that I might lost a spot in the limited numbers of employees needed, and also in great desperation, I run in heels and tight skirt towards the building while holding my bag tightly on my side.
Good thing, I still have a spare resume inside my bag so this thing should not be lost or forgotten.
I keep running as if my life depends on it-well, clearly speaking, my life really depends on this so go, Dahlia! You should never missed this opportunity!
But why is this company so far from the street?! And it has stairs!
Oh! This addends my struggle but no, just keep running Dahlia, because in any minute now you'll eventually reach the building.
And after a minute of running, I can see it now that I only have few steps away to reach the entrance door when unexpectedly, an unfortunate turn of events happened.
My left foot suddenly lost its balance that it made me lost control of my steps and at the same time, a group of men in black suit exited from the entrance door!
My heart skipped in alarm as my eyes widened.
But believe me, I tried to keep my stand but my heels betrayed me and because of that, I landed directly into one of those men in black suit who was in the middle.
As soon as my body collided unto his, my hands grasped at the back of his shoulders in a quick reflex preventing myself from falling.
His eyes stared at me wide as mine the moment I landed unto him, and for a brief moment, I got the chance to study the feature of this man's face that is just few inches away from mine.
He has a strong jaw, plump lips, pointed nose, a set of light-brown eyes, thick eyebrows, and new grown hairs of mustache and beard.
I must admit, this man has the looks and it seemed like he's not just an ordinary person.
But I was immediately brought back to my senses when he pushed me harshly away from him.
"What the hell?!" He said in his baritone voice and curled eyebrows.
And that's when I finally noticed something which my eyes missed a while ago, he was holding a Starbucks coffee on his left hand, and do you know what happened to the coffee?
Yes, you're right! It spilled on his arm but not just on his arm, on his expensive watch too, and the cuff of his tuxedo!
I also noticed that the empty cup was now on the floor along with its black content.
And that was when my reaction also kicked in.
"Oh my God! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it. Please forgive me," I said in distress and nervously pulled my unused handkerchief out of my bag.
I then went to him and wiped the liquid on his hand with my shaky hands, and I was about to wipe his watch too yet in abrupt motion, he pulled his hand away from my touch as he yelled at me.
"Don't you dare touch me!"
My body froze after he yelled those words.
"What is going on here?" A bodyguard suddenly showed up in between us.
He looked at me and then to the man in front of me, and I was perplexed when the bodyguard's face turned tense the moment he sees the man.
"Mr.-" He was caught off by the man.
"Move, this isn't your business." and the bodyguard obeyed without hesitation and bowed before retreating back to his post.
The man then roughly took the coat of his tuxedo and removed his watch from his wrist, then tossed those to one of the men in black suit behind him as people hovered around us to see the commotion that happened because of me.
This is the first time that I caused such commotion in public and I'm really not okay with it.
After tossing his coat and watch, he unbuttoned the buttons of the cuff on his longsleeve shirt from both of his arms and pulled the sleeves up to his elbow.
And while he was doing it, I could clearly see in his movements that he was displeased.
"I-I'm really sorry, Sir. I didn't mean for it to happen. I was in hurry b-because I'm trying not to miss the chance of a-applying to be an employee in this company. What happened was just an accident, Sir. I-I'm really sorry. Please forgive me, Sir." I said in a nervous tone of voice and shaky hands.
He then stopped and looked at me.
"Huh, you're in a hurry because you want to apply here?" He asked.
"Y-yes, Sir," I responded without looking.
"What's your name?" I gazed back at him upon hearing him asked that.
Why? Why would he asked my name?
But I choose not to provoke this man anymore, it might worsen the situation because it seemed that he's not really just an ordinary person.
He looked way more different than the rest of the men in black suit behind him.
"I'm Dahlia Guerriero, Sir." I said and after hearing it, he fished his phone out of his pant's pocket and call someone.
"Hello, Mr. Davidson. Is your company hiring for new employees right now?"
"Oh nothing, but I just want to suggest that you should never hire an applicant with a name Dahlia Guerriero."
My eyes instantly turned into a perfect O as
my body began to numb.
Did I just lost this opportunity which I think I have at least 90% chance of getting hired just because of this him?
How could he?
How could he easily take away my hope just because of a mere accident?
"It's for the sake of your business Mr. Davidson."
For the sake?
What does he think of me?!
I can feel that my blood started to boil and my body shake in rage.
"No, problem."
And when he hung-up his call, I lost all control of myself and the last thing I knew.
A echo of slap was heard outside this company's building along with the gasped coming from the people around us.
I saw how his jaw stiffened seconds after my small hand touched his face in a strong impact, he then towered over me and stared straight at me with his now darkened eyes.
I must admit that I got intimated but I shrugged it off, my anger is way more deep than my fear.
"You're so cruel! You took away my chance of getting a job! You took away my hope of helping my parents just because of a mere accident! I already gave my apologies but you chose not to forgive! How could you ruin this opportunity! How could you ruin my life when you only know me by my name!" I poured my heart out as my eyes started to cloud.
But before he could see my tears, I immediately turned my heels and walked-out with tears finally dropping out from my eyes.
