Little Scars
Scars highlight the reminisce of some traumatic event your body encounters or even from silly little accidents. Lucas was an accident-prone child which resulted in his body littered with scars and some superficial injuries. He knew where his scars came from and could trace them back to as far back as he could remember. There was one scar he could never piece together. He had a scar about two inches wide on the side of his neck. The clumsy boy could never identify the memory of earning a gash on his neck.
It’s been there for all 20 years of his life he could remember. Lucas one day fell ill with some sickness. Doctors would never give him a straight answer or shrug it off as a result of his clumsiness. Sure he wasn’t the most well-balanced person but Lucas was sure this was something totally irrelevant.
Fatigue has settled over him lately, and like any other day, he laid in bed. His iPod played some overplayed song he heard off the radio when he felt something move in his body. Feeling unsettled and soon nauseous, something felt wrong. Whatever it was, felt like it slithered through his body, Lucas ran to the toilet and gripped the porcelain lid, dry heaving. He felt something climb up his throat, making him let out a strangled scream. His dad walked in and saw the show but instead of looking concerned, he seemed excited. “Babe! It’s the time!”
Lucas was confused but threw up a freakishly large worm-like creature. His mom yelled towards his father. “Dean, Doctor Jaquez is on his way. This is a miracle. The specimen and our son are alive.”
The boy collapsed to the floor and his body was shaking due to the perspiration that covered his body. His parents seemed too ecstatic to care for their son, who was watching them through half-closed eyelids.
Doctor Jaquez, the family practitioner, came into the bathroom then talked amongst his parents quietly.
His mom walked in and showed the creature in the toilet. “Magnificent.” The doctor whispered. “The experiment went well. It’s ready to go to phase two.”
Lucas groaned and looked up at the doctor he’s known for years. “Help me.” He choked out. “Ah, you see if I help you, you’ll spill the beans and we can’t have that.” Dr. Jaquez clasped their hands. “Now, the real question is do we let you die naturally, or do we just put you out of your misery.”
Lucas’s mom seemed to be more emotional at the moment. “Just put him out of his misery. We don’t want our son to suffer any longer.”
The doctor pulled out the switchblade and smiled almost sympathetically. “You were my favorite partner Lucas. I’m afraid death was inevitable at this point. Goodbye.”
The blade sliced open Lucas’s neck, leaving him bleeding out and gaining a final scar.
