“Have I already mentioned that I expect only the best from you tonight??” - asked my father, the owner of the hunting academy ”Ving” before the last training session today.

Specifically, I was hoping it was the last one because my legs were killing me and I knew for sure that I wouldn’t have the strength in the evening if we continued at this pace. We were on one of the auxiliary fields outside Zagreb and I felt it getting a little cold even though Mount Medvednica was not so close to us. For one hunter whose adrenaline was currently running high, I was pretty cold.

" Tonight is the Red Full Moon. As you know, this is the time when all unmated werewolves and Lycans lament the Goddess of the Moon for not having a mate . A werewolf and a Lycan without a companion is a weak werewolf. ”

I’ve heard that story a million times so far. It was about the Goddess of the Moon giving each werewolf and Lycan its divine half without which it cannot function — that is, it can, but a mated werewolf and Lycan is much stronger than an unmated one. Each half draws energy from the other half and thus forms one perfect whole.

And I am a member of the Hunting Academy that hunts all supernatural beings - but primarily werewolves, Lycans and vampires. My father is even the owner of that academy, which made my situation rather ungrateful - namely, ownership was passed from generation to generation and I was expected to continue the ninth generation with happiness and enthusiasm, which I was not ready to do when I was less than eighteen. I also didn’t like what I had to do tonight - the massacre of Lycans when they were weakest.

Some inner voice was telling me that was wrong, but there was nothing I could do but obey and do what was expected of me.

Massacre.

A massacre of werewolves who only seek love from the Moon Goddess because they cannot find it themselves.

This only happens once a year and the next opportunity is not until next year! ”

I didn’t want to be a Hunter, but I had to if I wanted to survive. If I don’t kill ’em - they’re gonna kill me.
