Chapter 1
Start writing here…As soon as Casey walked into the bar the scene in front of her brought tears to her eyes. Her boyfriend Jake was sitting at a table with a woman straddling his waist having a makeout session until she cleared her throat to get his attention causing him to look in the direction of the door. When he saw who was standing there he immediately pushed the woman off his lap as if she’d burned him.
He stood up and tried to say something as he walked toward her but she held her hand up and said, “I don’t want to hear any of your lame excuses. I told you if you cheated on me again I would leave your sorry ass.”
Casey turned on her heel and started to walk away wanting to get out of there as fast as possible but before she could take a step he grabbed her around the waist and pulled her into his chest. Without thought, Casey kicked her leg back and heard a thud as if something hit the floor and then someone groaned as if in agony. Not looking back to see what it was she ran as fast as she could to her car and climbed in. She put her head on the steering wheel for a few minutes taking deep breaths to try and calm her nerves.
Once she felt calm enough she put the car in drive and drove in the direction of the person who could always make her feel better. Her best friend Drew.
Of course, she left the cheating bastard after that night. He’d tried calling and when she wouldn’t answer he would text her some lame excuses about how sorry he was and how it would never happen again. Yeah right like he hasn’t said that the last three times.
Casey had hoped he would leave her alone but after about a month he showed up at her apartment banging on the door at two in the morning. Luckily for her, Drew had fallen asleep on the sofa as he always did when he came over for their weekly game night. He called the police and told the operator the situation since she was too shaken up. About ten minutes later two policemen arrived and searched around the outside of the apartment complex but Jake must have run when he heard the sirens because the policemen said they didn’t see anyone matching his description.
After taking her statement and having her fill out a restraining order form. They told her if he showed up or contacted her in any way to call them.
Thank God he hadn’t contacted her since then but she heard from mutual friends that he had been asking about how she was doing, where she goes, and who she goes out with. She wished he would forget about her and get on with his life.
Drew was coming over tonight for their weekly game night. They usually just played Just Dance 2 on the Wii. Both of them were very competitive and liked to see who would win the most dances.
Just as Casey was pulling a pizza out of the oven there was a knock on the door. Putting it on the coffee table in the living room she went to answer it.
Opening the door she saw her best friend standing there holding a bag of Twizzlers which is her favorite candy.
“Thanks for bringing me some Twizzlers kind sir I just wish I had something for you,” Casey said dramatically as she stepped to the side to let him.
“Are you kidding me I get to spend time with my favorite gal and not to mention one who makes the most delicious pizza,” Drew said winking at her before picking up a slice of pizza and taking a big bite.
“Well let’s eat then we can figure out what the first song we’re going to dance to,” Casey said handing him a plate so he wouldn’t stain her carpet before putting a slice on a plate for herself.
They ate in silence both enjoying their food until she noticed Drew was looking at her funny. It was making her self-conscious.
“What do I have some sauce on my face,” Casey asked grabbing a napkin to wipe her mouth.
“Nope, I was just thinking how sad you’re going to feel when I beat you when we play Just Dance 2,” Drew said with a cocky smirk on his face.
“I will not be sad because I am not the one who’s going to lose pretty boy,” Casey said with mock sympathy.
Rolling their eyes at each other loving their friendly banter they continued to eat in silence until they finished their meal as quickly as possible so they could start their competition.
After cleaning up after theirs. For the meal, they moved the coffee table so it wouldn’t be in the way while they danced...
Each grabbing a controller and picking an avatar they then decided the first song they would dance to would be Walk like an Egyptian by The Bangles.
Three hours later there was no clear winner. Casey was getting tired but there was no way in hell she was going to quit and let Drew win. Deciding to take a break to drink some water and get some rest before they played again.
“Casey how many more songs are we going to dance to,” Drew said rubbing his hands over his face.
Casey gave him a wicked smile, “Are you quitting thus declaring me the winner?”
“No way am I quitting now when I’m so close to winning, ” Drew said grabbing his controller ready to dance again.
Instead of responding Casey picked up her controller and chose a song she knew he wouldn’t like It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls and giggled when she heard him groan in annoyance.
Two hours later they were sitting on the sofa Drew laying his head back on the sofa, Casey laying her head on his shoulder as they took another break. Feeling so tired she could barely keep her eyes open Casey said utterly defeated. “I know you’ll never let me forget this but I’m just too tired to care. I’m quitting so you can go ahead and gloat.
When he didn’t respond she sat up and felt relieved when she saw his eyes closed and he was lightly snoring. Smiling victoriously because she would never have to admit defeat at least not to Drew.
She helped him lay down then grabbed the blanket off the back of the sofa an snuggled next to him falling asleep within minutes.
