Context
Throughout Lady Vancessa Minifarth’s life, she has always been told that death was not a tangible thing. This is true, though she often wondered if it were tangible, how would it feel? Sharp? Soft? Rough? She often played with the idea in her head to keep herself occupied, for she was hardly ever a busy person and stayed in Darfield Manner for the most part. Due to her lack of physical exercise, she made sure to exercise her mind tirelessly. She constantly shut herself out from the world outside and immersed herself more and more in books. To be honest, she was afraid to come back to reality.
Not too many years ago, the Caliginous Plague washed up on the shores of our earth. Though, unlike water, we shall compare it to acid. It consumed people, their will to live, and their happiness. After a while, it seemed much less like a plague and more of a curse. This curse, if you will, did not kill you directly. No, it ate away at your mental state and made you go insane, forget who you were, and all the happiness you once had. The curse had such a grip on our society, and it ended up choking out most of the people in it that didn’t have the strength, money, or resources to protect themselves against it.
Lady Vancessa was one of the fortunate ones. Her father was the Duke of Alacastria, a floating land island gifted to the Minafarth family many generations ago by the great Queen of Continuance; Hesper, the child of light and ruler of life. Her grace surpassed all of the mortals that lived in the shadow of her grace and glory. The great queen of the land one day disappeared. Her two younger siblings fought for her place on the throne of the earth. The King of Stars, Castor, was far more powerful being the oldest. But Tenebris, the Monarch of Night, was much more cunning. Tenebris spread the curse, for whoever falls prey to it can be controlled by him. Not only that, but the only one who can lift is the one who cast the curse. Unfortunately, the monarch was killed by Castor long ago. His death was not by error or fault but on purpose.
When the Night Monarch was killed by Castor, he turned himself into a restless spirit with the power to possess any living thing. Tenebris corrupted the mind of the King of Stars and made him slit his throat with his own hands. Now that his brother, his puppet was destroyed, Tenebris was now just a lost, wandering spirit.
