Extract 1

It was dusk. The orange and pink light blinded me, but I still kept going. No one was awake. I was the only human being. I was surrounded by taunting mountains and menacing trees. As I trekked through the undergrowth, I glanced behind me. There it was. The last one of its kind. The final jelly. They were closing in. Fast. I sprinted. I reached out but they got there first. And just like that, everything went back to normal. The taunting mountains were replaced by high piles of clothes. The menacing trees returned to the giant evergreen in our back garden. The buzzing of the insects returned to the buzzing of the refrigerator. The undergrowth turned back into more piles of clothes. And there my mother was, standing in front of me, holding the last jelly. She glared down at me. Disappointed.
