Chapter 1
Bella was at the hospital working on some charts at the nurses station when she felt arms around her from behind.
“Hello gorgeous,” Lance said.
“Hey handsome, should you be doing that in the open when he haven’t told anyone about us?” Bella asked.
“Everyone here knows already and knows to keep it a secret,” Lance said.
“What about those who don’t know, what if my kids walk in? What if yours does?” Bella asked.
“Your kids are coming home from college next week and my daughter is in school, I have her on locator, my son is at his club, I know where they are,” Lance said.
“So you think they will like me?” Bella asked.
“They will, baby, because they want me to be happy and I am the happiest I have ever been since my ex left me and them,” Lance said.
“I know my kids will like you because all they want is me happy again,” Bella said.
“And your brother?” Lance said.
“He will be coming for dinner tonight, I want to tell him first so we can have his support for when we tell the kids,” Bella said.
“And your ex?” Lance asked.
“He’s happy to not have to pay alimony and will be happier when he don’t have to pay child support anymore,” Bella said.
“What’s the cut off age?” Lance asked.
“25, the twins are 19 so he’s got six more years of child support and I bet he’s counting down the days,” Bella said.
“Any contact with the kids?” Lance asked.
“No, he has his new family,” Bella said.
“Well I am going to be a father to them if they want me to, no father should ignore their children,” Lance said.
“They never talk to him anyways, they are perfectly happy with me as their parent, he never did anything for them, just supplied the sperm, he lost interest in me and the kids after I got pregnant with the twins and knew I wouldn’t look the same so he went for someone younger, he wasn’t there when the twins were born, Brad has been more of a father figure to them than their own father, they call him the sperm donor and say that Brad is the only father figure they have,” Bella said.
“I better get to work, I’ll see you later baby and by the way, you look beautiful today,” Lance said.
“Thank you, see you later,” Bella said. They went their separate ways and she looked at her next chart and groaned.
“Hey what’s up,” her best friend and fellow doctor, Hannah said.
“Hey can you take this patient, it’s my ex-husband’s new wife,” Bella said.
“Most definitely, I’ll consult with you after I’m done, okay, you don’t need to deal with them anymore,” Hannah said.
“Thanks Hannah, I owe you one,” Bella said.
“No need for that, Bels, I know what a jerk he is,” Hannah said.
“Thanks sis from another mother,” Bella said.
“You know it sis,” Hannah said. She went into the room. Bella went down the hall and started working on a chart.
“So you couldn’t take care of my wife huh,” he said from behind her. She looked up and saw her ex-husband, Greg.
“Conflict of interest, I don’t think you would want your ex as your wife’s doctor would you,” Bella said.
“A doctor is a doctor, I know you can stay professional,” Greg said.
“Dr. Riker is very capable of being the doctor, she went to school and graduated with me and has been a doctor for as long as I have, now why are you bothering me,” Bella said.
“Bella, I made a mistake,” Greg said.
“What are you talking about?” Bella asked.
“Leaving you,” Greg said.
“Oh bullshit, you couldn’t wait to get away from me and my kids, you weren’t even there when they were born, you never even bothered to meet them, you took off after I got pregnant with them, so get off your high horse and go focus on your new family as you call them,” Bella said.
“Bella,” Greg said.
“I’ve been doing just fine without you and so has my kids, we don’t need you, go back to your wife and stay there,” Bella said. She grabbed her charts and walked away.
