Chapter 1

"What did you do?!”

A scoff, “What did I do? You're the one that fell!”

“It's your fault you weren't strong enough to hold the two of us up.”

“You were the one who suddenly latched onto me! I was surprised, and you're heavy!”

“Quiet!” A large man at a desk shouted. His voice reverberated through the empty, white room. He mumbled something about not getting paid enough to deal with them before he put on a very… charming smile.

Sharp teeth and all.

He clasped his hands together and stared at the two, “Welcome, to the in-between. May I please have both of your names.”

One of them sighed, the taller one, with tanned skin and blue eyes.

“My name is Tit Lebedev,” he heard someone next to him stifle a laugh. Lebedev looked over to the annoying man next to him, "Something funny?”

“Your name is ‘Tit?’ Do you hear that big guy, his name’s fuckin’ Tit,” he let out hysterical laughter, and Lebedev couldn’t repress the blush of embarrassment that framed his face.

“I’ll have you know that in my hometown, my name means more then it does to you incompetent Americans.”

Still the laughter continued and after a few long seconds, it died; and the other man, with pale skin and dark brown eyes, started, “Unlike my best friend Tit here, my name is pretty normal. Which is Len Covington.”

Lebedev scoffed, something he liked to do a lot, and crossed his arms. Getting impatient, Lebedev stared at the man, “Why do you need our names, what is happening, where are we, and what the hell is an in-between, as you called it?”

The large man at the desk morphed his fake smiling face to one of confusion, “You don’t know? You have no possible idea what happened or where you are right now?”

Lebedev and Covington just stared blankly. The man sighed, rubbing his hands down his face in exasperation. “Are you two ‘religious'?” Lebedev frowned, “I do not particularly believe in any ‘God.’” Covington shrugged, “I’m not much of a religious person myself, but my family is Catholic; and I did go to church when I was younger, does that count?”

The man didn’t answer his question, only continued on, “Well, I am assuming you both know Heaven and Hell, correct?” They both nodded their heads, Lebedev decided to put his hands in his suit pocket, fiddling with the ring inside.

“Basically the in-between is what the title says, it’s the in-between of Heaven and Hell… well versions of it.” The silence in the room was loud until someone decided to speak up. Covington scoffed, “What, so we’re like, dead? And what do you mean by versions?”

Lebedev didn’t say anything, just frowned, his eyebrows scrunched together tightly. “Yes, you two are dead, and I get to see who gets to go to ‘Heaven,’ and who gets to go to ‘Hell,’” the man snapped his fingers and a large flat screen tv appeared behind him.

He grabbed a remote somewhere from his desk and held it to his smirking lips, like this was the most fun he’s had in a while. “Now let’s see what you two did to end up here.”
