Chapter 1: The Party
I picked up the clear cylinder and unscrewed the cap with my thumb. The white cap dropped onto the bathroom counter. loud music and flashing lights blared outside the door. It was so loud.
I never liked parties, or loud music, or flashing lights. But, somehow, someway, my friend dragged me to this stupid party.
I was currently in the bathroom with a bottle of pills, pills that I hoped would make the noise not so loud.
I heard a knock on the bathroom door, ¨Dekoda, are you in there?¨. It was my friend, my now half drunk, chaotic, friend. I loved her, she was smart and pretty, (and could be a little stupid at times).
¨Yeah!¨ I said, slightly shaking from the knock on the door. Her name was Hazel.
I poured some of the tablets from the bottle into my hand, grabbed one, and put the rest back. I put the tablet on my tongue and swallowed it. I walked out of the bathroom and saw hazel standing by the door. She grabbed my hand and said,
¨I want to show you something¨. The pills gave me a little bit of a buzz, they made the noise not seem so loud. Hazel still had her hand in my grasp and pulled me close as we made it through the sea of people in the living room and went up stairs.
I was still close to her as she went to the end of the hallway and jumped up to grab something, a chord hanging from the ceiling with a ring at the end of it. after the trapdoor attached to the string dropped down she pulled down a latter and climbed up it, she waved her hand towards herself and said
¨Come on!¨ I then climbed up the ladder and followed her to a window which she then opened and climbed out of. There was a small fenced platform outside the window. she sat down and patted the spot next to her.
¨I know what you did in the bathroom¨, she said with a slight frown on her face ¨I saw you put the bottle in your pocket when you walked out¨
¨Why didn’t you tell me?¨. I felt tearable.
¨I didn’t want you to get mad at me¨, I looked down at the ground with a guilty expression on my face.
¨I wouldn’t get mad at you¨ she said in a loving tone, ¨I just want to know why¨
¨It makes me feel happy and good inside¨ I said, attempting to say the word vomit that explains why I had a bottle of white pills in the pocket of my hoodie. We sat there in silence for a small bit of time.
She looked up at me again, ¨I have something to tell you¨, she said fidgeting with her hands in her lap.
She took a deep breath,
¨I´m gay…¨, she closed her eyes tightly and flinched after she said it. I put my hand on her arm,
¨Oh. Hazel, you think I didn’t know.¨. She stared at me,
¨Wha- what?.¨ I smiled.
¨Iv´e known for a while now¨ I smiled and hugged her. She stared at me and said,
¨I-I have a crush on veronica fields… I know that she is bi too.¨ Veronica fields was the lead of the cheer team, everybody had a crush on her. she was pretty and kind, and she was always willing to listen to other people’s Ideas and act on them. Most the boys though just though she was pretty and wanted to get with her.
She had wavy brown hair, light blue eyes, and could make anything look good if she wore it. She mainly wore a baggy red college hoodie and blue skinny jeans.
"I think you could date her." I said with optimism in my voice.
"You think" Hazel said with a slight smile.
"Now let's get down from here and go to my house."
"I can make popcorn and hot chocolate" I said smiling.
Hazel didn't have the best home life. Her parents were always fighting and they didn't really care what she did outside of school, or if she was gone for weeks on end. So she's kinda like family to me. And it works out too, my parents always wanted another daughter and Hazel was welcome at our house anytime. When Hazel would stay over when we were little we would make forts and watch movies.
I remember seeing her one morning in middle school and she was crying and I said "Hazel, I will protect you and be with you no matter what" and I haven't broken that promise yet and I don't plan on it.
