An Invitation
‘Coffee?’ WhatsApp window surfaced on my cell phone.
My casual dumb reply as always, ‘No, I finished tea after woke-up’.
For few seconds, it was a dead silence, WhatsApp was not even indicating if she was writing or not. To be frank, I had no idea on the context. ‘I am asking you, are you ready for having coffee at Starbucks? Such a dumb!!! My God’ – Thank God, silence is over.
I didn’t know how to react on this coffee invitation, other than realizing I conquer another level of dumbness in the morning.
In a minute, I started worrying because she never agreed on a coffee-out for last few months. I framed a very cautious and neutral conversation and asked, ‘Are you okay?’. ‘Are you joining or not?’, found the ultimatum. Obviously, I am in at any time; literally 24x7 for coffee with her. ‘Will see you at Starbucks’, I put a logical end of the chat session and started getting ready quickly; but was really worried on the situation.
I reached Shopping mall in twenty minutes; did a math quickly after reaching on how quickly she could reach there and it was more than twenty minutes, feeling safe! Local Starbuck was closed, I decided to wait just in front of it; best way to find each other. After forty minutes I called her to check her whereabouts; but she was in another call; I started walking to and fro centering the coffee shop and killing time along with listening music in phone. After a while, found her walking towards coffee shop; engaged in conversation with someone and laughing intermittently. There was very rare occurrence when I was able to pick her mood; so decided not to try it today again!
She noticed the closed shop; with a casual look she waived her palms at me and asking in sign language as what I am doing there? She started walking out of the mall, I followed her. In few minutes, she got over her conversation and finally looked at me and said ‘Morning!’ If you don’t know her, then don’t expect ‘Good Morning’ greeting; ‘Morning’ is enough from her! I said, ‘let’s sit somewhere; its cold outside’. She guided me and we managed to place ourselves in breakfast shop, just by a glass wall with a good view of the mall road. The view helped us to settle a bit.
