Red moon and silver cloud

I woke up from the smell of dirt and grass filling my nostril. My naked body was irritated laying on the cold ground instead of a bed.

“what the hell”

it screamed at me I felt shameful before I even got up. I looked around but I was alone and naked in the forest. I ran the fastest I could jumping over rocks and fallen trees not caring of the branches scratching me, no I didn’t stop until I got to my hiding place. As I did flashes of the night before came back to me. How I won the fight my cousin organized against the towns biggest wolf. I was becoming somewhat famous lately and everyone wanted to fight me.

I dressed fast fumbling with the shirt as my fingers were cold from sleeping out side in the spring, then I ran to the river washing my face and hair before I put my shoes on and left to get to the others. I stopped outside the prayer cottage and went trough my hazelnut brown hair with my fingers that thankfully had gotten warm after that run.

I sneaked in and sat next to my mother. My father gave me a glare that could kill but said nothing. My mother ignored both of us. The Alpha sat on his throne and looked down on all of us. he was like any other alpha big and pompous his son sat next to him who was my best friend until last year after the big fight, after that we haven’t talked. His mother had died suddenly when he was young and the alpha hadn’t taken another woman sense. They say he loved her to much to love another but I knew the real reason and it had nothing to do with his heart.

Losing Barry as a friend meant losing the rest of the packs sense they decided to frozen me out. But it didn’t matter my parents Gil and Henry Forest raised me better. But still I cant deny I cried for more than a month after the fight and it hurt seeing people I could trust a minute ago turning against me for no reason. We left the meeting like we always do, saying our prayer to my dead sister and then we headed to the park for picnic. I suddenly got hit on my head from behind.

“Where were you last night you missed the fight of your life.” Said cousin Fred and I only smiled at him.

he said halo to my parents and run away. Fred also wanted to pull away from me like the others and he did for couple of month but my parents and his parents sat us down and talked about family before the pack and he stopped ignoring me after that.

I think his parent bribed him because after that he visited the city and met the strongest worriers of the city ring. He still talks about it and the autograph he got hangs in his room.

“So where were you.” Dad said and gave me a stare. I loved Fred but he tend to get me in trouble even when he didn’t mean it. I tried to shrug my shoulder and look away but dad only grabbed my chin with his fingers and turned me to him again.

“Dad I was carful. Besides I am stronger then all of them.” I said and he looked angry then he sighed and looked down.

“you have to understand how dangerous it is what you are doing. We have a plan, now is the time to stick to it.”

“Henry the food will get cold lets go.” Mom said and pulled father away. Then she turned around and gave me a glare.

“you are grounded for a week.” She said and that was it.

Mom has become more silent lately and it was scary. Dad turned around too and tossed me a book. And I looked for a place to sit and read. The kids were playing in the middle while the older kids were playing close to the forest. I sat by a tree and started to read. Ever sense my mom started to force me to come to these events dad had made a habit of bringing a book for me. I love it. it always make me fell as free as I am when I turn to my wolf form.

I was in my book and loving every word I was reading about the true alpha who made his way from poverty to greatness just from sheer belief in himself and his strength. That’s wen I got hit by a football Barry had thrown at me. I got angry and left the event while the shitheads were laughing.

The red moon was finally up, I had been a week sense the picnic and mom and dad was panicking in the kitchen packing our a bag with the things the witch said to bring. And a lot of money that she wanted to do this spell. I was nervous but at the same time more calm than my parents. Maybe because I felt it was time, and it was finally time to get rid of this curse. I looked forward to see my real inner wolf. Not this one, this one who made my life a miserable place to be. The witch said to meet her by the river pond were the red moon meet the silver cloud without telling anyone or alarming the village. This would be as private as it could be and that was the only way this spell would work.

I put my jacket on and went down to my parents. They both looked pale and the worry in their faces was clear to see. It made me almost laugh for some reason. I took a deep breath and they both looked at me and did the same. Then we went to the car.

“I was thinking. Even if this spell doesn’t work you could find a way to coexist with your current wolf. I mean –” I interrupted him because I knew where this was heading.

“No dad, if this doesn’t work, I will die, I mean it I will die and wont accept it.” he stayed quite for a while and didn’t say anything until we reached the river.

“Don’t say word like that casually ever again, you don’t know what that means. “ his low voice scared me as it hit the right core, I had forgotten about my sister and the pain they must feel after loosing her. I became angry I hate this I wished I was the one who died and not her.

We got out of the car with our mood still low. Mom brought the bags and we walked to the river. The witch was waiting for us. she was younger than I first imagined a witch would be and she was wearing a black dress and goth make up. her hair was black but the smell of it indicated she had died her hair. I was angry that day to, my parents told me to turn in front of her but was hesitant sense the last witch we had met didn’t have much to offer than taking our money. But my parents were desperate and I was depressed.

“The money.” She said and mother handed her the money. After counting it, she conjured a bag and started to pour different liquid into the river while mumbling a spell.

“What is she doing.” I whispered to dad.

“calm down, lest just wait and see.” He responded making me calm down.

After a lot of spells and hand movement that only looked stupid she called for me to come. Then she told me to go into the river until my head was under the water. I did as she instructed and when I had gone into the water I saw it the magic surrounding me, it was wicked cool and in any different scenario I would have enjoyed it. now I was hoping It would work I was hoping I would be normal.

Please make me normal just do me this favor and I promise I will live my life as the kind and good man I know I can be. I chanted that prayer over and over again until I heard her voice again and I walked towards the witch. I was naked. Somehow my clothes had disappeared in the river.

“Now, turn into your wolf form.” I was hesitant then I did it. The first thing to go was my leg, they crumbled and broke into wolf legs and then my abdomen and I could feel every bone shrink and bend in animal form then my head with my nose and mouth stretching out while my fangs came out dripping with dangerous venom.

I felt it all and started to get excited my new wolf form my new wolf felt like a bad ass. I howled into the night but then I saw my parent eyes. Something was wrong. The witch took a step back.

“You said that this would work. Do something he is still a she wolf.” I turned around and looked myself in the water. And he was right she was staring back at me. Fuck.

“I don’t know what went wrong, there most be something preventing me from changing him. I am sorry.” I growled at her and then at my parents. Then I ran so fast they could barley see a trace of me.
