Blood On Your Hands

As a child, I knew what they all thought of when they saw me. I didn’t have irises in my eyes and my mother made me wear a mask. “Monster.” “Demon spawn.” “Bad child, bound to kill.” I heard them think.

Akuji sat on xer bed, waiting to be unchained by someone. Xer mother walked into xer room

“stand up, its time to eat.” She looked disapprovingly at her mutant child, it wasn’t xer fault they were born this way. Akuji stood up and xer chains were taken off but xe didn’t try to run, xer wings took to much room up for them to run away, or try to hurt xer mother. “Come on, your sister wants to see you.” Xer mother beckoned towards the door, not even looking at xem. Akuji walked toward the door and pulled their wings in, and wedged through the door. Chains clinking against the hardwood floor. The white walls of xer hallway were suffocating, the windows were barred over. No way of xem getting out of xer home, a prison for crimes they didn’t commit. The crime of existing.

Akuji’s sister was waiting at the table where it was oddly colorful. Xer mother put on a cheerful facade, as she did around her favorite child.

“Hey Kuji! How are you?” Svetlana looked at her sibling, not knowing what xe go through everyday. “Alright.” Akuji spoke quietly, xer voice deeper than xer mothers and sisters. Looking down at xer plate which was just ground meat cooked, it wasn’t appetizing it just looked like dog shit in xer brain. “You should eat! Momma says that if I eat good I can go outside.” Svet was cheerful but it made Akuji sick to their stomach. “Be nice.” Xe thought “I’m not really hungry...” xe lied, Mother shot them a look “I don’t care. You will eat or you can go back to your room.” Akuji stood up and walked calmly back to xer room. Mother followed xem, angry. Akuji could feel the hate burning inside xer mothers heart, hands, legs, head. “Keep. Distance.” Xe warned xemself, that xe did. When they arrived to the room Akuji was kept in Mother slammed the door, xe could have sworn the entire house shook.

A loud crash sounded through the house, Akuji’s chains fell off of xer arms. The sound of chains hitting the cold, hard linoleum sounded throughout the room. Akuji looked at xer mother with the eyes of a lion, no the eyes of a demon. “I’m your child. Why don’t you love me?” Xe questioned, Mother looked at xem. Trembling, Mother looked at them “I do love you! This is all for your safety!” She pleaded with her child. The bars on the window started to bend, Akuji stormed to the window and cracked it. After climbing out x3 began to move xer wings; this, however was xer first time flying and seeing the sun. Xer eyes burned, they felt like they were gonna fall out or shrivel up. Somebody had grabbed Akuji, xe couldn’t tell who but xe could tell they wanted to help. “Hey, your okay. My names Angel, do your parents know your here?” The voice of this person sounded comforting to Akuji. “That was my mom. She keeps me there..” xe spoke softly as to not scare away anyone, xe figured it would be best to hide xer voice. “Oh. Don’t worry, we’ll keep you safe, is there anyone else like you in there?” Angel asked, the “oh” part sounded upset. “My sister, but she doesn’t get treated like I do. Mother likes her I guess.” After being told this by Akuji, Angel’s face scrunched up. “How old are you kiddo?” She questioned, Akuji wasn’t used to the quiestions, or human interactions for that matter. “I’m eight.” Xe answered

“Alright, let’s get you home.” Angel told xem.
