Prologue
She gasped as she shot straight up in bed her eyes wider than they’ve ever been before.
She could hear the storm raging outside.
See the excited bursts of lightning.
Hear the angry booms of thunder.
The rushing way the drops of rain pelted against her window.
The harsh whispers of the wind.
It all fit the haunting scene she found herself in as she tried to steady her breathing. She wasn’t used to dreaming and to have a nightmare freaked her out. She was running from something. Or was it someone?
There were tears in her eyes and even though she knew she shouldn’t drive in the mess of the storm out; she just had to get away from there. There, where ever it was, was beautiful. Warm and inviting. Or maybe that was because she was getting soaked as she ran. She could still hear the classical music being played inside. The beat matching the sounds of her feet as they hit the wet pavement. For tonight she had her own theme music.
Someone was calling her name as she ran. Their voice was garbled, but whoever it was wanted her to stay with them. They were begging her to come back, but she couldn’t. She still just wanted to get away. To run and never look back. With tears in her eyes she pulled off and just as she took a sharp turn the car skidded off the wet road and headed straight towards a tree.
She awoke just before she died. Her heart was pounding and she had a headache. She was to scared to go back to sleep, so she just lied there mulling. She was sure that dream was trying to tell her something and she couldn’t help wondering what.
