Chapter I - Briefing Hour
A black snowmobile arrives nearby a base. A passenger exits the vehicle, where he carried his assault rifle. The passenger was wearing black winter attire and had a mask on.
He then approaches a man standing guard near the entrance. He wore a more grayer winter attire and winter goggles.
“Colonel, great trip?” he said.
“Not in particular,” he responded.
“Welcome to Camp Idaho. Thank god your here,”
“Apologies for arriving late, Redfield. We need to move out fast,”
“Let’s just get to the briefing, you got anyone else?”
“Yo, Brody!”
“Yes, sir. I’m here,” a person right beside Bryce said.
He wore green winter clothing, though he has a distinguished white covering which has a red cross wrapped around his left arm.
“Medic?” he said.
“His my assistant, Charles Brody,”
“Charlie, as a call sign,” he looked at Bryce and then sharply added.
“Redfield. First Lieutenant Jonah Redfield,” he introduced himself to Charlie.
“So, the briefing room?” Bryce asked.
“Oh, yeah. Let’s hurry up,” he shook his head.
He turned around and then opened the door behind him, which he proceeded to enter. Bryce and Charlie then followed from behind.
“Danny, you good buddy?“, a man talked with another person whilst playing a video game.
The soldier also wore white winter attire, which he had the hood pulled down. Danny wore black winter attire, which he also had his hood pulled down.
“Don’t know Brock,” he told him. “After what happened at the checkpoint, I thought I was done. But this past months, you’re the understanding type. If you weren’t here, I don’t know what I would.”
“Well, Danny. Whatever happened, it happened, and that’s not your fault,” he reassured him.
Suddenly, someone called Danny’s radio.
“Hey guys, do you copy?” the operator asked.
“Sergeant Danny Smith here,” he replied.
“Danny, Colonel Jenkins just arrived on base, mate. He’s en route to the briefing room, just hurry up, okay?” the operator replied and then ended from the other end.
“Oh shit, its Bryce,” he told him.
“Yeah, let’s just hurry up,” he told him.
“Yeah, it's getting worse,“
“Well, let’s go then,”
The two shuts off their game, where they then proceeded to leave the room together.
Bryce, Jonah and Charlie were walking along until they approach a soldier bench pressing. The calming music from the radio nearby continued, whilst the soldier put the barbell on the support, where he then got up. The man had his head shaved, wore a green tank top, 3-colored winter fatigue pants. He also have a falcon tattoo on his left shoulder.
“I see you mate, continue your reps,” Jonah said.
“Got the time, join me later, I’ll show a trick or two,” he said.
“Sorry mate, got company,” he pointed at Bryce and Charlie.
“You don’t look fit, maybe we should do some training,” he noticed Charlie.
“Umm, thanks man, not much of an athlete,” he replied.
“Same old Dwayne, trying to be on his friendly side,” he said.
“Corporal Dwayne Fairfield. I’ll see you soon,” he added before going back to bench pressing.
They were then approached by Danny and Brock, though they looked tired.
“Sergeant Smith and Private Davidson,” Jonah fist bumped them. “This is Lieutenant Colonel Jenkins. Just taking him down to the briefing room.”
“Gotta to prep up.” Danny and Brock said in unison.
“I’ll see you in there marines,” Bryce told before he left the area. “They looked, odd.”
“Danny and Brock? Yeah, usually time like this, they would always play games, don’t worry about them,” Jonah said.
“You sure they’re good?” he asked.
“They’re always ready, sir,” Danny ends the conversation. “Follow me.”
They entered through two opened wide door, where they see a soldier working behind the desk. He had glasses on and wore winter attire.
“Sky? They got you sitting behind a desk?” he was surprised. “Want me make a phone call?”
“Well, Jonah. Sitting behind the desk ain’t so bad than being out there, not in danger, you know?” he told. “So this must be your one and only satellite man.”
“Satellite guy,” he said. “Name’s Bryce Jenkins, Lieutenant Colonel Bryce Jenkins.”
“Oh, I didn’t know, Lance Corporal Skylar Banning, everyone calls me Sky,”
“Let the colonel into the briefing room,”
“Alright,”
Jonah was about to move, when Bryce patted his shoulder.
“Got a question. How long has Brock been here?”
“Oh, uh. A year, maybe. Why?”
“It’s nothing.” he said.
Bryce pats his shoulder, where he then walks to the briefing room. Charlie follows from behind, where he gave Jonah a shrug. He proceeded to follow them from behind also. When they enter the area, the environment was as if it was a palace, it was also ancient.
“Sir, you know him, don’t you?" he knew something was off.
“Brock. Yeah, since we were in highschool, relax,” Bryce said in a chill tone. “So, Private, huh.”
“I hear that. Good man, though,”
“Same,”
“Bryce!” someone called out.
Bryce then looked behind him: it was Brock who called out, along with Danny from behind. He proceeded to walk towards him, where he shook his hand.
“Bryce, haven’t seen each other for a long time,” he said as he gave him a homely hug.
“Brock Davidson, what’s up?” he asked.
“Well, sorry, but when's the briefing starting?”
“We're doing it now,"
The soldiers gathered around for the briefing which was presented by Bryce, using the monitor that had been set up. The monitor projected a map of a location.
“What that’s, modern art or something?” a uniformed Dwayne wondered.
“Real time footage from the highly classified Nuada program,” Bryce explained to the group.
“Meaning what, exactly?” he wondered again.
“Thermal satellite system I personally engineered,” he explained again.
“Impressive, engineer away,” he sarcastically asked.
“Does behavior like this happen in any other briefings, Redfield?” he asked.
“Their eager to catch a break, sir,” Jonah said. “They didn’t mean anything.”
“Alright then,” Bryce began. “Satellite sweeps of the war zone uncovered what appears to be an underground storage facility. Of course, requires further investigation, but I strongly suspect it’s where the Russian’s are hiding biological weapons.”
Everyone knew where the location was.
“Wait a minute, isn’t that where the battlefield and the team were?” Danny knew.
“And we’re backup for them. CENTCOM gave the green light give suppressing cover for them and raid the facility and seize any weaponry on site,“ he continued. “Remember, the war is still ongoing, so I would suggest to stick in the team. We’ll be using the snowmobiles, with one stealth helicopter.”
“What are we waiting for, I’m ready!” Dwayne enthusiastically said.
“But sir, this team is a bit short on people. Taking we’re getting air-support?” Jonah was concerned.
“Mate, too many birds could catch their attentions. In and out, 20 minutes tops,” Dwayne said.
“Don’t joke around, Dwayne. I know your style,” he said. “So sir, what’s your call?”
“We’re keeping this small. If things go south, we’ll pull out and bug out,” Bryce confidently told.
“With all due respect, but I think that’s the wrong call,”
“‘With all due respect’, Lieutenant Redfield, it’s not your decision to make.”
“This feel right to you?” Brock was a bit concerned.
“Fairfield got a point. If we spin too many helos, it will increase our chances of being spotted. Any concerns, see me after the briefing,” he said. “We go dark until the weapons and the team are secured. IF we don’t break radio silence within 24 hours, CENTCOM will mount a rescue operation.”
“A lot of stuff goes down in 24 hours,” Sky was concerned.
“Stop being a baby,“ Dwayne mocked him.
“I’m just saying, that’s all,” he ended.
“This is the reason why we go to war, Sky!” Bryce said. “Also the reason why we got out of bed everyday! Make no mistakes, gentlemen, this is how we stop the Russians. Get ready in 10 minutes. Dismissed!”
Everyone got out and went in their separate ways prepping up.
“Charlie, help me set up the equipment,” Bryce ordered him.
“On it, sir,” he obliged.
Brock walks towards them, where Charlie noticed.
“I’m going to download the latest satellite data,” Charlie said. “I’m gonna leave you two to catch up.”
“Thanks Doc,” Brock thanked him before he left. “Bryce. How’s life?”
“Life’s going forward. Got a family back home,” he said. “You?"
"Also going fine, still single,"
“Really now?", he noticed. "You know what, Brock. After this, I'll teach you the ropes and try get you a girlfriend.”
“You serious?"
He patted his shoulder while smug.
Dwayne then noisily put a briefcase on a table, which caught the two’s attention.
“Dwayne!“, Bryce shouted while walking towards him, “Be careful with that, man!”
“Aw, man! Sorry,” he apologized. “Say what you got in that thing anyway?”
Bryce then opened the case, which he then pulled out something out. He then turned it on, which emits a blue light.
“What is that?” he asked.
“UV light, ultraviolet,” he said. “We use this to sweep for explosives.”
“Let me test it man,”
“No, this is not a toy, Dwayne,” he rejected before putting it back in the case. “Charlie, how much longer for that download? I need it ASAP.”
“Five minutes ASAP for you?” he said. “Downloading data now.”
“Good. Let me check the satellite maps,” Bryce replied.
“Not the greatest bandwidth,”
“We’ll work with what we have,”
He walks towards Jonah and Danny, when he noticed a white colored thing on a table, which he inspected it.
“Is this what I think this is?” he asked.
“WP, sir,” Xavier replied.
“White Phosphorus?”
“Just popping smoke sir, that’s all,”
“These are only to be used for cover. Understood?”
“Understood,” he obliged.
“After all, the Russians are the one who’s breaking the weapons conventions, not us,” he reminded.
He then notices and walks towards Dwayne, who was inspecting yellow colored equipment on a table.
“Sir, we need to be mobile, why do we need this stuff for?” he asked.
“We need to be alert. The facility is underground, possibly under maintenance. It’s safer this way,” he told.
“You want me to feel safe?” he noticed. “Then get me more shooters then.”
“So you’re my technician?” he said in a relaxed tone. “I’ve heard about you.”
“I should hope so,” he replied. “I’m here to keep our gear in check. If any Russians pop their heads up, I’ll take ’em clean off.”
“I see your confidents in you, Corporal,” he noticed. “If you need any assistance with the climbing gear, I’m here to help.”
“I’m sure I’ll manage, Colonel,” he ended before Bryce leaves.
He walked up to Skylar, who was nervous.
“Umm, Sky, you good?” he asked.
“I’d still rather be sitting behind a desk,” he said. “If things goes south, at least we can rely on air support to dig us out.”
“I’m sure it won’t happen,” he confidently said.
“You’re confident,” he noticed.
“You’re gonna be just fine,” he also noticed.
They then heard someone whistling: it was Charlie.
“Download’s complete,” he said.
“Let’s get to the snowmobiles,” he said after walking to a table which had a briefcase on it.
He then walks towards the exit, where Brock also followed from behind.
