Chapter 1

I always felt like my parents were wrongfully murdered. I know that being king and Queen automatically put a target on your back but this time it was different. The rebels never took anything, they just killed them and left. At least that's what I was told. I was 8 when it happened and the memories kind of blurry. Growing up I was told many times about what happened but now I realized how many times the story would change.

"Princess, it's time to wake up." Saraí said. I'm an only child and I rarely ever leave the castle, so my maids and some of the guards are my only real friends.

"Later." I moaned. Saraí giggled as she turned on the light. I threw my head under the covers, trying to block out the light.

"What time did you go to bed, Princess?" Mila, my other maid, asked. She pulled the blanket off of me and folded it up, "You didn't, did you?" I shook my head. With my eyes still closed I stood up and walked over to the bathroom.

"You know Your Majesty, you can't stay up all night. It's not good for you. You're only 15, but it could have some serious effects on your health when your older." Mila yelled.

I threw water on my face and stared into the mirror. I threw my long black hair into a messy bun knowing that Macy and Saraí will fix it into some extravagant hairdo, but it's nice to be able to look at myself and not see a done up Princess.

"I'm sorry, ma'am but we must hurry. You're going to be late for breakfast." Saraí was always the more formal one. She has long, curly blond hair that she keeps in a bun. Her light brown eyes always shine in the sun and despite her short height she always moves at a speed that would make you think she always has somewhere to be. Mila was the same at first. I've known her my whole life. She has wavy red hair and fairly pale skin.

"Do I have to go to breakfast? I don't feel like listening to my aunt." I walked over to my bed and pulled out my necklace. It had my dad's ring on it. He gave it to me on my six birthday as a reminder of my birthstone. It was an amethyst stone and even though you can barely see it, my name was engraved inside the ring.

"Yes miss. You've already missed the last two breakfasts and the Queen said that she has something important that she must talk to you about."

I sighed and stood up. Mila pulled a dress out of my closet and handed it to me. I took it and walked into the bathroom. Once I turned twelve, having them dress me always seemed weird. I put on the dress and pulled my hair out of the bun. I always like my hair down but my aunt always told me that having my hair up looked more professional.

"Miss, I'm sorry to be a bother but we have ten minutes before you have to be down there and we still have to do your hair and makeup." Saraí knocked on the bathroom door.

"Can we not do makeup today? It's not like she would notice the difference anyways, she barely ever looks at me." Mila had a apologetic look on her face and I knew that meant no.

"How about this? We do your makeup so that it looks like there isn't any makeup on." I gave a smile and sat down at my desk. It took about five minutes for them to get me to get ready. Saraí put my hair into a braided bun. After another two minutes of me begging them to let me stay we heard a knock on the door.

"Hello Officer Cedar. How are you today?" Saraí asked.

"I'm good. I'm sorry for interrupting, but Queen Karia sent me to get Princess Ismay for breakfast."

"Of course. We just finished getting ready." I sighed and walked over to the door. He bowed and held out his hand. I took it and laced my arm around his. Mila and Saraí waved and closed the door. There were a few more officers in the halls guarding some rooms that I was never allowed in.

Once we weren't around anyone, Cedar pushed me against a wall. He put his hand on my cheek and kissed me. Max and I have been secretly dating for almost a year and a half now. He's a year older than me but he looks much older. He has curly black hair that always gets in his eyes and dark brown eyes that look black.

"You look beautiful." He pulled away but he kept his hand on my cheek.

"You tell me that everyday." I said

"And I'll tell you tomorrow too because I mean it. You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen and I will always make sure you know that." Before I could say anything else he kissed me again. This time it didn't last as long but to me it felt like the world. It was always like that with him. When you were alone with him, even for a minutes, it felt like an eternity.

"Let's go, Isy. We got to get you to breakfast before your aunt sends someone after you.
