Chapter 1
"Time to get ready for the party Imani!!!" My mom shouts. I walk into my bedroom and all of the best SFX and makeup artists are doing my makeup. Not that I need it anyways but just for my public image I put on makeup. Today is my 16th birthday and my parents are planning the best sweet sixteen in the century(and the most expensive). I notice my 8 year old sister,Milan, getting ready. She was the runner up on "America's cutest sweetheart". Of course she lost to a white person. I don't need a dumb contest to prove I have the CUTEST little sister EVER.But she is annoying sometimes.
My hairstylist puts a relaxer in my hair. Without even trying to protect it. Some people are just so unprofessional. Every time I try to go natural my hair is damaged, because of these unprofessional people. But I am not going to complain, so I just stay quiet. Then all the people quickly get out of the room to allow me and my sister to get dressed. I wear Debbie Wingham high heels and pair it with a haute couture golden dress. My hair is silky straight. I like it natural but I have to give the public what they want. It's what's paying the bills anyways.
