Revenge
Heat. Overwhelming heat filled all her senses. The smoke burned her eyes, all she could hear were cracks as the beams in the house smoldered. She tasted ashes on her tongue, felt the flames lick at her skin, the fumes from the fire burning her nose and lungs.
This was the last time he'd ever cheat again. She remembered the feeling of terror, of utter betrayal when she followed him to his coworker's house at ten o'clock at night. Remembered the lies that'd so easily slipped from his mouth. But most of all, she remembered the feeling of triumph as she dropped the match on the gasoline spilled on the porch. As she watched him through the barred windows, half dressed, barefoot.
He couldn't hear her, but he could see her. No words were needed as he met her eyes, flames dancing up the sides of the house. She'd won. She had known it the moment the panic had set in his eyes. She'd won, and he would never hurt her, nor any other woman, again.
You loved me so fiercely I burned; now you will be left with ashes.
