Prelude

Marian Webster’s Dictionary defines Chaos as a state of utter confusion. I learned that word in Mr. Bruning’s Seventh Grade English. He liked words. We wrote down hundreds of them throughout the year, but for some reason that one always stuck with me.

That is what life seems in this moment as I peer outside the spider web of glass. The blue and white lights rapidly pierce the damp leaves creating a strobe effect of life in slow motion. I can hear shouts in the distance as if they are seeking someone, but not me. Trapped inside, I am hidden from the outside.

There is a deep voice shouting above the others. It is trying to find control where there is none, but even controlled chaos is still chaos; right?

I imagine them searching. I hope they find her.

To truly understand the importance of knowing, I must tell you first about me and how we met.
