Chapter 1
“Okay, that’s the last one.” Devin said depositing the last bag in the trunk of Ryan’s car before turning to his best friend, Gabrielle De Marco.
“Thanks so much Dev.” She said giving him a kiss on the cheek and a huge hug. “Isn’t he the sweetest?” she asked turning to her boyfriend, Ryan Lisbon.
Ryan rolled his eyes at her. He didn’t even bother to mention the fact that he had carried all the bags before.
“Hey, I’m just trying to get rid of you!” Devin teased, “The sooner, the better!”
Gabrielle hit him over the head.
“You know you can’t live without me!” she told him, her hands on her slim hips.
Devin sighed dramatically.
“You’re right. I’ll probably go to my room and cry myself a river when you’re gone.” He joked.
Gabrielle hit him over the head again.
“Don’t joke about stuff like that!” she said.
“Fine.” He said rubbing the back of his head, “Geez, do you have to hit so hard? That’s one thing I’m definitely not going to miss when you’re gone!” he told her. “Better watch out Ry,” he warned his other best friend, “Inviting her to come live with you might be the biggest mistake of your life!”
“Hey!” Gabrielle pouted, wrapping her arms around Ryan’s waist. “I would never hurt my baby!”
Ryan spoke up then.
“Actually baby, there was that one time-“ Gabrielle silenced him with a look, “Okay, I think we better get going now.” He said changing the subject and hiding his smile. He was accustomed to the teasing and sometimes arguing that went on between Devin and Gabrielle so this was no exception.
Devin and Gabrielle had been best friends for about ten years now, which was a little longer than he knew Ryan, and the three had been very close friends ever since. It was only about a year and a half ago that Ryan and Gabrielle had started dating and soon afterwards, claimed that they were in love. Devin didn’t mind. If anything, he was happy for his two best friends.
Devin and Gabrielle had been living together since they were seventeen and now they were both twenty so that made it three years now. A week ago, Ryan had asked Gabrielle to move in with him and she agreed. It wasn’t that she didn’t like living with Devin, but she realized that he needed his privacy and he would never really have that with her around all the time messing with his game.
“You ready?” Ryan asked her.
“Yep.” She said giving him a bright smile. Then turned back to Devin and hugged him again.
“Geez Gaby, it’s not like you’re never going to see me again!” Devin stated, “I live ten minutes away!”
“So?” she stated, “Anyway, you are coming over to my house for dinner tonight right?”
“Jesus, she hasn’t even moved in yet and it’s already her house!” Ryan said shaking his head.
Devin smiled knowingly.
“Look, tonight is the first night you two are going to be living together. Do you really want me there?” Devin asked.
Gabrielle and Ryan looked at each other and then back at him.
“You’re right. Stay home.” Ryan told him.
“Yeah. Order in some Pizza.” Gabrielle added.
