Chapter 1

-buzz buzz-

My eyes glanced at the buzzing phone, I never picked it up to check what it said as I already knew what it would say. The speed of my car got higher as the rain got heavier. Suddenly a red traffic light caught the attention of my eyes though I never stopped. We have to pay for the consequences of our actions, so did I. My car had now passed the red light and a loud horn hit my left ear. Having no time to process what’s happening I immediately looked at my left but all I saw was a light so bright and close that I couldn’t see anything else and before I could realize what was happening I heard a loud bang and a truck crashed right into me. For a split second all I could feel was pain, as if each of my bone was crushed into millions. It wasn’t long before my eyes shut close and the next thing I saw was a hospital and a nurse looking at me although she ran out of the room as soon as I opened my eyes to call the doctor. The doctor arrived and informed me of what happened and that barely a day had passed since the accident. Suddenly it hit me, the reason why I was in such a hurry was because of an important meeting I was already late to. I immediately paid for my treatment and left the hospital and walked to the building I work in. It was about 7:00 pm and there were no workers and the lights were closed but all I could do was hope that my boss was still in his office. I stepped inside his office and sighed in relief as I saw him sitting in his office although something was off. He was angry. He didn’t notice that I came in so I knocked on his door although I was already inside to grab his attention. He looked at me in slight annoyance and said,

“Your okay Miss Ashley, glad to know because our company certainly isn’t.”

“I’m very sorry sir, I tried to make it as soon as I could but as you know unfortunately I got into an accident” I replied with a slight frown on my face and my eyes looking at the floor

“I’m sorry as well but you’re fired.” My boss said pointing at the door.

“Please, you have to understand! I got in a goddamn accident I couldn’t wake up from the bed and come to the meeting! Just give me once more chance, please.” I said as my eyes were now looking at him and not the floor

I never heard a word come out of his mouth again, all he did was just sigh and point at the door again. I walked out of his office and packed all of my stuff and walked out of the company. I couldn’t help but shed a few tears. Before I knew I was just crying at the sidewalks as I walked to my apartment. I was now at the doorstep of my apartment. I cleaned my tears with the sleeves of my crimson suit. I put the keys in the door and opened my apartment. All I could think of was jumping on my bed and falling into a deep sleep, little did I know I wouldn’t get to do that. As soon as I walked in my apartment and noticed how the lights were open, I saw a tall man sitting on my pink couch in front of the tv in the living room. Although he was no stranger, he was my own brother and my landlord. As soon as he saw that I was back, he asked me what was wrong. I told him what happened, hoping he would understand after all he was my brother. As soon as I told him what happened, he sighed and put a hand through my dark brown long hair and said,

“Oh Ashley oh.”

As soon as I heard him say that I immediately knew something was wrong, he always calls me ash but right now he called me Ashley

“Mark, what’s wrong?” I asked him

“I’m sorry but now that you don’t have a job I can’t let you stay here, please get out of here” he said

“You’ve got to be kidding me. Is this a joke?” I replied

“unfortunately dear it isn’t, please get out of here” Mark said with a sarcastic smile on his face

I immediately ran to my room as soon as I realized it really wasn’t a joke. I packed all of my stuff and moved out in anger. Now that I was out of my apartment I realized what actually just happened. So to summarize, I was now jobless and homeless.

I walked to a public toilet with my suitcase and locked myself in it. All I could do was just cry myself to sleep in the restroom and that was exactly what I did.

Next morning I woke up in the restroom at about 6am. Since it was a restroom it had a mirror and it had water. The lights were open and the whole restroom was empty. I managed to take a bath in there and wore the same clothes, a crimson suit with a white shirt on the inside. I left my hair open and walked out of the restroom and it was now about 8:15

Fortunately, I had some money in the bank so all I could do was withdraw them.

It was now about 12:04 and I just returned from withdrawing my money. It was about a $100. Although I thought that was enough for me to survive until I got a new job but almost 2 weeks had passed and I was already out of my money and I was unable to find any job. I was now walking on the sidewalks of times square New York staring at all the posters of the fireworks. It was 11:30pm and the fireworks were supposed to go off at 12am. I had nothing else to do so I thought I might as well just watch the fireworks.

it was now 11:58 and before I realized I was climbing 2 staircases at a time. My breath grew shorter every second I existed in that moment but I knew it was worth it.

10..9...8...7..

I finally reached the roof and realized how the door was already open, My left foot touched the first step of the roof but suddenly everything else disappeared before my eyes and all I saw was a gentleman with beautiful eyes looking at me with his body doing a 180 degree turn. The fireworks went off although it wasn’t enough for me to take my eyes off him. It wasn’t long before I heard someone scream behind me, “Police! You’re under arrest, anything you say or do will be used against you in a court of law!”

And before I realized I was cuffed.
