Chapter 1
It was my first official day at work. I was about to get a delightful, temperate mug of coffee from the coffee shop next door when my boss called me. He informed me that a new case had been opened. The case of Aurelia Harrington. Since I was single, I was also hoping that I would have to do an investigation with a cute guy, but sadly I was wrong. I was about to look her up on social media when he told me to come down to his office right away. On that occasion, I rushed down to his office. On the way down, I see a beautiful brunette girl. She has hazel eyes, a big smile, a beauty mark on the left side of her lip, and dimples. She has my dream body, and everything I would ever want to be. She looks like a literal goddess.
I walked and walked through the halls, the brunette girl following me. I was tempted to wave, but I got scared and chickened out. The hallways so empty, everyone except for me and the brunette must be out on an investigation. As I finally approached the door, I slowly opened it, “Sit,” muttered my boss.
As I sat on the comfy, turquoise, silk cushioned chair, he sighed, “I know how badly you want this case. Trust me, everyone here wants it. So Chantelle, if you want it so badly. You’ve got to prove to me you’re capable of such case. You may leave.”
I nodded and strutted out of the room as the beautiful, brunette girl walked in. If I have to prove to him that I am capable, I wilI. And I know how I can prove to him I’m worthy. I’ll write an a thousand word essay trying to convince him that I am the perfect fit. Me and only me.
As soon as I got off of work, I went straight to my diminutive NYC apartment to set up the essay. I sat down and peacefully started typing. It seemed as if my thoughts took over everything, and my fingers just followed along. By the end, I had a three thousand word essay instead. As happy as I was the next morning, I strutted into his office and slammed the papers on his desk.
“Chantelle, you better be joking,” he scoffed, “and even if you were, we don’t mess around in this place. You of all people should know that.”
“Sir, I’m not joking around. I really think I deserve this case.”
He finally proposed a deal, “Fine, Chantelle. You want this case? I’m giving you a collaborator. Officer Nicolette Rae will be your accomplice for this case.”
There is no way that he just gave me this case. There is absolutely no way. I must be dreaming.
“Thank you so much! This is truly an honor, I mean you-“ I got interrupted by his walkie talkie.
“Oops. We’ll talk about this a different time. Go to room 308 to speak to Rae about the case, and you two get started,” he declares as he showed me out of his disarranged, nanoscopic office.
And that was just the beginning.
