Chapter 1 - The Beginning
The rain was crashing, the lights were flashing, and the sirens were screeching. Detective Jon Walsh was on the scene within minutes of the call, desperately trying to move on from his recent blunders and heartbreaks. The detective hoped that this incident would be an easy one to solve. However, he knew that this incident would test him; this incident was not like any traditional incident he had dealt with before: this was the incident that caused Detective Jon Walsh to go down the rabbit hole in a continuous loop of emotions.
Shadowing the alleyway the darkness crept with the odd gloomy reflection that the street lights and moonlight casted upon the shiny, slippery surface. Jon and his partner [Tomos] were furiously searching around the alleyway. Analysing their findings, the chief was viewing everything they had found while the coordinators maintained the coordinated sanction.
Ceasing their search, Jon and Tomos suddenly remembered a vital clue: a letter that had been delivered to the station weeks before this incident; a letter that contained a warning of a mysterious incident that were to happen. Bellowing over, Jon corrected his stare toward Tomos as they both made a quick dash towards the direction where their car was parked.
With-drawing the keys from his jacket when they suddenly slipped out of his grasp. Diving in chase of the keys, Jon abruptly noticed something. Facing toward whatever he saw. Jon suddenly notices it again, whatever it was had disappeared as quickly as it appeared. More and more of these things came to confront Jon as he fixed his view on them. Jon began to become overwhelmed with a feeling. An apprehension that was distinguishable, yet it still bewildered him.
“W-why do we need to go?" Worrying about her reply, Jon glances at the floor. “It is your parents' 50th anniversary; we have got to go and celebrate their successful relationship.” Hesitantly but sincerely, Jon replies: “But you know I despise them ever since childhood!”
“Just get ready and go wait for me in the car!” His wife orders him. Jon placed on his blazer and headed to their car, which was parked in their garage. After picking up his keys and taking his seat, Jon started to wait for his wife.
Booming into life, Jon started the engine of his dark red Jaguar E-Type after his wife had finished getting ready and had headed into the garage. Jon jumped out of his seat as he noticed she was standing at the garage entrance glaring at him attentively yet gently. Settling into their seats, Jon began to state his feelings clearly; “You know how he treated us when we were younger. You know how he wanted me to follow in his footsteps and become a businessman.” Jon’s wife chooses to keep quiet for the whole journey.
Noticing his wife’s quietness, Jon becomes mute as he believed that he must have been bothering her.
Awoken by the probing on his shoulder, Jon was brought back to reality and soon started to feel better after seeing Tomos hovering over him with a blissful smile.
After helping him get up, Tomos, fearful of the response, asked him if he was feeling ok and if he knew what happened. But Jon never replied or even acknowledged the question. Instead, he just handed Tomos the keys and glanced toward him then back to the car. Finally, he fixed his glance on the floor, tears threatening to pour from his eyes.
Clambering into the passenger seat while a confused, but worried Tomos inserted the keys into the ignition and started heading towards Jon’s home. Tomos was scared to say anything as drove the rest of the journey in silence. But as soon as they reached the bottom of Jon's driveway, a sound of a man sobbing came from where Jon was seated, the passenger seat that sat on the left side of the black Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow.
Storming into his bedroom, Jon begins to break down. Taken aback at the pictures of him and his wife, Jon began to remember how beautiful she was on their wedding day: dressed in that elegant white dress, with her red lipstick, her tall red high heels, the red ribbon that hung loosely around her waist, and the red headband that held her hair back. He remembers her beautiful wavy blond hair and her brightly coloured eyes that reflected love, happiness, and belonging as he hopelessly glared into them. But what meant the most to Jon was seeing her smile; seeing her smile was what Jon lived for...
But all of that, gone. Jon lost everything he dreamed of: he lost his world, he lost his family, and he even lost his freedom: living in a nightmare, living his nightmare. When the incident took place, Jon was destroyed. He started to believe that everything was for nothing. Jon did not want to continue getting tortured. He wanted his life to be better, the same as his family's life now was.
Worrying about his partner, Tomos rushes to Dr Smith’s office. Dr Smith was Jon's therapist, who had seen Jon at the worst of times for him. He had seen Jon in his pain. Dr Smith had seen Jon struggle through his nightmare. While heading back to Jon’s house, Tomos supplies Dr Smith with the information about what happened: Tomos tells the doctor that it was happening again, that he was not speaking to anybody, nor was he not even noticing anyone.
Discussing the recent occurrence and what had happened, they head up his drive and into his house. Dr Smith, knowing the way around Jon’s house from a past visit, took the lead and dashed toward his bedroom, where he knew Jon would be huddled up under his covers in a ball-like shape. Sitting on the bed, Dr Smith slowly pulls the covers away from Jon to reveal the defeated man. After glancing to see who pulled the covers away from him, tears started to pour down his cheeks again: already glimmering from the prior tears that had fallen.
After sitting in silence with Tomos and Dr Smith for the remainder of the night, Jon became more tranquilised when Dr Smith poised Jon down enough by encouraging him to try the breathing exercises he had shown him in a prior visit. Jon began to state what had happened after seeing the things and discussing how he and his wife had gotten ready for his parents' 50th anniversary. He told them how she wore that doleful black blouse, and he mentioned how he thought that she was keeping something from him.
After discussing the flashback, Dr Smith had to leave. Tomos suggested that he would stay with him to keep him company to avoid Jon becoming agitated again. Tomos prepares a quick meal for Jon to eat and a nice cup of tea to go with it. After handing it over to Jon, he began to leave and headed to the guest room until Jon stopped him and asked if he could stay with him in his room. Not wanting to upset Jon further, he made himself comfortable on the bedroom bench that was neatly tucked by the end of Jon’s bed.
