Chapter 1

i'm not a very deep thinker, if anything, i seem to be very shallow when it comes to almost everything.

so you can imagine the surprise on people's face when i say that i'm a ravenclaw. i'm very dedicated to my studies, of course, but i might as well be stupid at everything else and it's quite annoying. the whole stereotype thing, it's pathetic. why do slytherins need to be mean? why do ravenclaws need to be perfect?

i'm not perfect. far from it really. but i'm not about to correct anyone who says it. which is what i'm not doing right now. "i really am disappointed, dear, i expected much more from a ravenclaw such as yourself."

she didn't say she expected more from me, no, she said from a ravenclaw. as if i am my house.

"i'm sorry, it's just... everything hasn't been as easy as it always was..." you heard that right, i'm pulling the 'my parents died' card. it's not much, really, considering it happened three months ago but it's enough to get them off my back.

and it's not a total lie either, just not the whole truth. i'm struggling because i need money, a lot of it. when my parents died they decided to leave nothing in their will for me. it's left me in quite some debt and it's not like i can magically conjure up the money i owe ( although i have been wondering why i can't), so it's been hard.

i'm looking for relatives who can help me— jobs that will take me int he summer, anything. the only problem is that i do decide to take a summer job then i have nowhere to stay. the house was given to my aunt, verilla, and she doesn't like me very much so i'm not allowed in the house. all the other relatives are scattered around the world and planes aren't exactly inexpensive— besides apparating is forbidden since i'm only fifteen.

"oh," she faces the floor and i almost feel bad for pulling the dead parents card. almost. "i get it, i apologize, ms gilbert, it wasn't my intention to put the essay so far in my head. i will do better on the next one, i promise." i just made a promise, one i'm sure i can't keep.

"of course. thank you, blackwell." i smile at her and she dismisses me quickly, still uncomfortable. as if this was ny better for me.

once i leave i spot draco on the corner talking to pansy. "hey," he says once he spots me and i start walking with him and pansy to their common room. i had a free period. "where are we headed?"

"your common room. i need to finish an essay before i get tangled up in... stuff again." it's embarrassing to even talk about money in front of draco and pansy. their parents are practically royals.

"oh okay. but i've got an extra class in about ten minutes." he eyes me apologetically and i simply shrug, facing pansy.

"oh. i have divination right now." i nod at her and kiss her cheek before waving at both of them. no point in hanging out in the slytherin common room with no slytherins to hang out with.

"blackwell!" someone calls out and i look behind me only to find professor snape face to face with me. my eyes widen at what he's holding in his hand. no no no. this can't be happening. i don't need this right now. i can't have this right now.

"y—yes professor." he's intimidating as it is, but holding a plagiarized piece of work that i let pansy borrow is even more intimidating. that's why she wanted to hand it in so quickly.

"i need to have a word with you, ms blackwell." once we walk into his office the lecture does not stop.

...

"pansy goddamn parkinson!" the scream emoting from the auburn' lips was not nearly as terrifying as the look on her face as she so stormed towards the slytherin common room. there she is met with the sight of blaise, pansy and draco sitting on the couch.

"you prick!" she yells, throwing the papers into the girls face. she starts to retaliate but falls silent when she sees the papers.

"you— you did this to me! you simply copied my whole essay. not one word is changed except for the date of course, one showing how much of a 'hard working' student you are." she couldn't stop rambling and screaming and crying and the whole slytherin house was watching. draco deciding that her reputation has had enough tainting, decided to force the girl into his own dorm, the one he shared with blaise and theo.

"breathe, love." his voice soothes her and she decides to let herself fall into his embrace. she can't keep going like this anymore. she can't keep trying to fix the problems her parents caused. she couldn't let her years at hogwarts simply pass her by while she tries to find out weather or not she'll be able to live in a house in the summer. it isn't fair. "what's wrong?"

she can't tell him so she continues to sob into his arms. and then cries some more. and then she keeps crying for an hour until she wears herself out and falls asleep on draco's now soaked shoulder. he sighs, knowing how this was going to end anyways. iris is closed off, very much so that he hardly knows how her parents even died. it's hard for her to open up to people, he understands that, but she can't keep coming to his common room and crying in his dorm for hours on end. it breaks his heart to see her like that.

a few moments later someone knocks on the door and he prays it's not pansy incase he decides to break her nose. lo and behold, the brunette herself was standing in front of him with the most innocent look in her eyes you'd have to pry it out of her that she just betrayed her best friend— if they're still considered that.

"what do you need, pansy?" he didn't want to be mad at her, he had nothing to do with this, but he couldn't help it.

"i— i wanna talk to her."

"s'not a good time. she's asleep." an awkward silence falls in between the two and she sighs, closing the door and fully coming into the room.

"i don't remember inviting you into the dorm?" it was rude, and fairly mean, and if iris heard him she's have him hexed but what else was he supposed to say? 'hey pansy, my best friend, who just made iris cry for an hour straight'?

he knew she wasn't the main reason, though, she couldn't be. iris doesn't easily cry in front of people so if she did she was at a breaking point, already. pansy just lit up the already heated flame.

"draco— i didn't mean to hurt her, you know that." she looks like she's going to cry and he swears if she lets a single tear down he'll hex her out of his room and all the way to spain. "i never wanted to hurt my best friend but things haven't been too easy for me lately and i didn't have time for this essay. you know how my parents are about my grades and i just... i asked her if i can copy hers, i didn't think of the consequences it meant for her. she told me to paraphrase it but i just didn't find the time. i'm so sorry. i know i should be apologizing to her but— i'm just really sorry."

he knew that was a sob story the second she opened her mouth about not having time because not even two days ago she was talking about going out to hogesmade with no apparent issue. it's disappointing to see this from someone he holds in a high place someone he held in a high place.

"that's a bunch of bull. you know you have more than enough time and if you weren't lazy you could've gotten it done."

"draco i swear i'm telling the truth. i really couldn't have gotten it done even if i tried."

"pansy your always asking us to go out!"

"because i know you'll always refuse." he pauses for a second, trying to understand the meaning behind her words. it seems heartbreaking at first, the fact that he ignores her so bluntly, and then he thinks of the angel sleeping on his bed and his instinct is to kick pansy out.

"get out, pansy. i'll tell her you wanna talk when she wakes up." she nods once, walking out without further conversation.

iris stirred in her sleep, finding a comfortable position to sleep in. once she lands on her side, her bare back shaking and her bralette peaking through the clothes that have ridden quite high on her stomach.

"good night, love." he kisses her hair, the smell of roses consuming his senses.
