Her long red curls blew in the wind, high on the mountain top. She watched the troops get closer and closer to the valley where the trap she had planned was set. The men wanted her power. Her troops behind her were watching, waiting for the signal to attack. Her armor was digging into her shoulders and her sword heavy in her hand but she was skilled with it. Most people feared her... but not them. Not her mates. The two men stood by her sides. Most would know they weren't human. One cursed with the moon and one cursed with the sun. But the curse had no effect since they mated one another. She has the power of healing and earth control. They all live immortally together. But if one were to get a fatal wound to the heart they would all die together. The gods have a plan for them. There's a great evil coming. This battle is the start of many more at a much later date, but the end of one. The end of a life to live another one. Rebirth centuries later, it was told by the prophets that the queen would rise again and the tyrants would fall.
When the enemy were all in the valley together, Gaia let out a battle cry so loud the ground shook. The valley sunk before their eyes. The men inside along with it, the battle was over before it even began. Gaia expected cries of joy, pride, and victory. No one knew of the powers she possessed besides her mates until now. Her expectations were met but what she didn't expect was the cry of anguish and hatred. When she turned around to inspect the sound, a blade spun into her heart. A woman who had lost her family in the valley, was torn apart before her now dying eyes. Her mates cried out and fell to their knees before she did the same. She was dying. They all were. The crowd erupted into chaos. "The queen!" They cried. The mates screamed in agony at their dying love. The pain they felt in their very own chests were unbearable. One laid her head in his lap, and the other held her face leaning over her body. They screamed to the gods with their dying breaths. Gaia looked at her mates through her fading eyes.
"My loves." She whispered.
She reached her hand up to the heavens and whispered "Even if I may never live again, save them, take the last of my essence, please." She felt her core start to harden . Her muscles, her blood, her tears, all turned to stone along with her mates. She heard one that whisper from the heavens as the world went black.
"I can do better than that, my child."
A temple was built around the stone mates, slowly sinking into the ground. The truth was hidden, and the legend was formed for centuries to come.
