"I am not a big reader of literary fiction but this first chapter is a delight. The beautiful, coiled narrative and brooding imagery transcend the page as we read from inside Wren's head, detracting herself from the officious conversation between her father and the priggish headmistress. The smell of old books and even older wood are tangible in the authors self assured writing. A couple of instances where the phrasing stumbles a little but its not a distraction and these are very rare... A lovely writer and a very strong style."
