Two Heart In One

I don’t know whether or not my life began with him or not but as a 5th student at the time it was the most jaw-dropping life changing experience I could imagine. The first time I met Noah it was like time had stood still just like in the movies where you hear the sappy love song in the background but even better because it was happening to me. It was the middle of our 5th grade year right after winter break I was sitting at my desk organizing my notes by color when a knock hit the door. In walks our principal following a boy with long hair tied up into a ponytail. The principal hands our classroom teacher a note as they whispered to one another. The boy stood there watching the entire classroom one by one. When he finally turned to me I froze as our eyes locked together. He had the most beautiful brown as I have every scene. Our teacher cleared her throat and I was shaken out of his trans.

" class we have a new student today. This is Noah and he will be joining us for the remainder of the school” she said as the classroom continued to whisper.

" Would anyone like to take 15mins and show Noah around the school?” She said as a bunch of hungry eyed girls’ hands went up around the room. Not mines however I quickly reach for my textbook to shield myself from getting picked.

" hmm how about Ashley. You are classroom monitor” she said as she prepares the hallway passes.

I grumble and moan as I get up from my seat to grab my pass. Noah grabs his as well and we were out the door leaving behind disappointed faces.

We walked in silence as I showed him the most important places that I student should know. The cafeteria, the office, the library, and the gym.

" I was told you guys have a swimming pool”?

I stopped and looked at him clueless ” wait you can talk “? I asked him knowing my question was stupid.

He gave me the most weirdest look I’ve ever seen. ” yes I can talk. I am human aren’t I “?

His comment alone made me feel like not the smartest person in the room. ” I know you can talk. What I meant is since it’s your first day of school I thought you would be too shy to speak”

He chuckled ” that’s what’s wrong with your brainy kids. You think you know it all but you really”

I frowned ” I do not think I know it all. I just have common sense that’s all”

He shooked his head” well princess do you think you can show me the pool or not”

Princess? Who was he calling princess and why does a 5th grade boy have such a mature sounding voice. I wonder if he’s one of those left back kids and that is his reason to come to my school.

" hello earth to princess,” he said as he waved his hand in my face. ” can you show me the pool”?

" I can but it’s only for 6th graders and up,” I said with a grumble

" I don’t want to swim in it I just want to see it that’s all,” he said

I looked at my watch ” I don’t know our 15mins Is almost up and we have to get back to class”

He placed a hand on my shoulder “come on don’t be a princess all your life. You got to take changer” he said as the grip of his hand on my shoulders tighten. The closer I was to him I could see the brightness in his eye.

" okay..okay but were only staying for 2mins then were straight back to class. Deal ?”

" deal,” he said with a smile as he followed me towards the pool room.

We get to the pool building and it was empty. I looked over to Noah and he had a cheerful look on his face. This must be something enjoys doing since he wanted to see it so badly. Matter of fact I think the teacher did mention he was on the swim team at his old school but I sort of tone her our at the point.

He squats down at the edge of the water and puts his hand in as he swishes it back and forth.

" Okay I think that’s enough now we should get back to class”

" hold on for a sec,” he said as he waved me over to him

" bend down next to me,” he said

I do so as he takes my hand and dips it into the water. ” do you feel that”? he said

" yea it’s water,” I said with a chuckle

" no, think beyond that.” He said as he motion my hand with his back and worth in the water

" Can you feel the vibration of the flow of the water? It’s as if you and it shares a heartbeat at once” he said as I feel the cold water flow through my fingertips in a swift motion.

I turn to face him and our nose was so close to each other I can feel his breath. My heart began to beat double time as his eye left the water and onto mine.

" I think we should get back to class now. It’s almost lunch time” I said as I snatch my hand away and walked over to the door.

Before exiting I paused ” would you like to eat lunch together ” I whispered hoping he didn’t hear me.

" sure,” he said as stood next to me and open the door to let me out as we head back to class together.

A few weeks went by and I and everyone else is starting to get used to Noah being in our class. I don’t understand how someone can go from being a no one to having everyone greet you by name each day. He really does bring light into a room no matter how dark it is. He’s also super smart, especially during science. I think he knows more about our environment than I do and I usually am the smart one when it comes to that subject.

At lunch time everyone wants to eat lunch with him but he just sits next to me. I usually eat alone because it gives me time to study or catch up on my reading but with Noah beside me, it causes a super distraction. Especially since a lot of people want to eat lunch with him so they would come to our table to surround us. I never had this much attention around me if counting our state wide spelling bee counts. Suddenly the room got quiet as Stacey the most popular girl from our homeroom came up to our table.

" Hey Noah,” she said with a smile.” Oh and Britney,” she said to me.

“it’s Ashley” I responded back. You would think she would know this since we have known each other since kindergarten.

" anyway, Noah me and a few of us is going to hang out at our neighborhood park. Do you want to come with me? You can come as well, Sidney”

" its Ashley” I whispered”

Noah gave her a smile after finishing his milk. Then he turns to me ” What do you say princess it could be fun? ”

He said with a smile that made me blush as his eyes and everyone else were on me. I don’t really hang out after school I mostly have other important activities like studying but everyone is waiting for my answer. I’m also pretty sure if I don’t go then Noah wouldn’t go and Stacey knows that which is why she invited me in the first place.

" umm sure,” I said as the group of kids cheered.

" I ask were going then,” Noah said to Stacey.

" cool beans well see you then and don’t worry Becky knows the way”

" it Ashley “! I yelled as she and her friends walks away.

Noah nudges my side as he gives me a reassuring smile which I return one back. It’s just a trip to the park with a bunch of snobby popular kids. What’s the worst that can happen.

After school, I walked with Noah over to our neighborhood park. There are classmates and others from our school who were out there. Stacey quickly got off the bench she was sitting on with her friend and walk over to us. She grabs Noah’s arm and pulled him over to the entrance of the crowd. He looked back at me and I just gave him a reassuring smile.

" Okay, everyone now that the guest of honor is here we can begin our game. The name of the game for today is hide and go seek.” Stacey announces as everyone cheered.

I chucked to myself because you would think a snobby group of kids wouldn’t pick such a baby game.

" Okay everyone I’m going to count to twenty and you all hide the last person standing wins. Everyone ready ?” she yelled as everyone get ready as I stood there clueless”

" okay one.. two... three.. ” she started counting as everyone spread out quickly. I stood there like a deer in headlights because I never actually played the game before so I didn’t know where to go. Suddenly a hand grab me and pulled me. I looked to my side and it was Noah as we run together and I followed his lead.

Suddenly I tripped over my shoelaces and fell on my knees. Noah notices our hands release and turned around to come back for me. He held out his hand for me and I took it as help hoist me up. I tried walking on my leg but it was painful. We hear Stacey stop counting and with a swift motion, Noah lifted me in his arms and ran with me. He lowered me behind a huge oak tree which was big enough for no one to see us. He was out of breath as I could feel his heartbeat because of how close he was to me. my heart also began to beat.

" Are you okay,” he said as I tried moving my leg. We both notice f blood sliding down my ankle I must have fallen on a branch or something. I tried to hold back my tear but it was so hard because I do not like pain. Noah watches me as tears flooded my eyes.

He suddenly bend down on one knee and took out his wallet . he opened it and brought a pokemon bandage from the inside.

" being on the swim team you always have to make sure you’re prepared for safety situations.” He smiled as he place the bandage on my leg as gently as he could.

" try moving your leg a little,” he said as I bend it up and down. I tried to act bravely in front of him but I couldn’t as I a tear left my eye again. He probably thought I was being a big baby. Suddenly he used his thumb and wipe my tears away as they slowly stop.

Noah left his hand pressed against my face. I tried to look away but he slid his finger under my chin a tilted my head to me his eye. His eye was a perfect pool of blue and I couldn’t help but stare into them. His eyes blink and I notice he looked nervous. I can feel his body tends up. He closed his eyes as his head slowly moves closer to mines. All of my breath left from my lungs as my head was going crazy with thoughts. He is totally about to kiss me. I was complicit I either could let this happen or stop him but even if I wanted to my arms felt like noodles. I closed my eyes as his lips got closer to mine. I could feel his breath brush against my face. There was no stopping this now it was happening as his lips connect to mines. I didn’t know what to do at this point or how long it should be but at that moment I didn’t want it to end.

Several drops of water touch my cheek and then the rain came pouring down on us. Our lips finally came apart as we hear our classmate screaming from getting rained on. He smiled at me and ran away without a word. . I stood there in the rain and in total silence; touching my lips in thoughts of my first kiss.

Several days went past and I haven’t seen Noah since that day we kissed because I’ve been home with a cold. Must have been from standing there in the rain for too long. For the last three days, all I could think about was that kiss. I couldn’t eat I couldn’t sleep all could picture was Noah. I didn’t know if it was love or not. Or what love was but I knew at that moment I wanted to express to him how I was feeling.

It took several tries but I finally perfected the perfect love note to give to Noah about my feeling. I never did this for any other boy and I didn’t how he was going to respond but I didn’t care I had to get my feelings out or ill go crazy.

The day I came back to school I was looking for Noah everywhere. So I had to the lunchroom to see if he was getting early morning breakfast. I walked into the lunchroom with the note in my hand and full confidence.

As I walked farther inside I saw him sitting next to Stacey at our table with his arm around he as they were sharing a milk box with two straws. My heart ached as I watch the two of them get closer and laugh together. I took the note and ripped it into multiple pieces.

At this moment I realized I hate him.
