Prologue
Morrigan turned to look at Casseus, he was still asleep. She smiled, her heart feeling light, something she'd thought would never happen again. She kissed his nose and got out of bed, pulling his cloak on to cover her naked body. As she walked towards the kitchen, she felt sore and smiled further, last night had definitely not been a dream. In the kitchen, she scanned for what she could make for breakfast and all she could find were peacock eggs. They were extremely rare but perfect for a morning like this one.
She was frying the eggs when Casseus walked into the kitchen. He hugged her from the back and she closed her eyes, letting herself go a bit. His arms felt just right and he kissed a cheek from the back, which made Morrigan turn around and face him. She kissed his lips, would this ever get old?
Their front door burst open and they both turned towards that direction. The prince, flanked by four of the kingdom’s guards, stood at the entrance of their kitchen. He smiled menacingly at the two of them, and they stared at him. Casseus still held Morrigan in his hands and she didn’t push him away, she knew what was happening and she was determined to keep holding Casseus if this was going to be their last moment together.
“Angelus Morrigan,” Said the prince, “Did you really think you were going to hide forever?”
“Get behind me Angelus.” Casseus said.
“We’re not leaving without her, Casseus, she has unfinished business and you know it. You can’t stop me.” The prince said, sounding cruel.
A chill ran down Morrigan’s spine, she knew that tone. He was prepared to kill Casseus if he had to. She held Casseus tighter, it was really over, as soon as it had begun. Morrigan stood in front of the prince, effectively blocking Casseus.
“Okay, I’ll come with you.” She said, sounding defeated.
“Angelus, you don’t have to do this, we can take them down.” Casseus said.
“I know we can, Cas, but I’m tired of fighting, they’ll never stop hunting me down.”
“Wise decision, Morrigan.” The prince said, “Get her.”
The guards got to her and tied her hands behind her back, Casseus started moving and she shook her head. She hung her head down.
“I love you, okay?” She whispered and just like that, she was led out of the house.
This had to happen, but it meant that she was going back home, something she’d promised herself would never happen, but here it was, the truth. Angelus Morrigan was returning.
