Life.
It could be many things.
Perhaps a simple being, ready to reveal themselves to whatever foe may be lurking.
Perhaps a universe of stars, watching, waiting, for another like itself.
Perhaps a web, tangling its quiet prey in its cotton grasp, wondering if it should intervene, or let fate decide how the uncertain creatures should free themselves.
It would be lonely, you should think. Being Life. Left only with the reckless tide of your thoughts.
Maybe the only thing I can relate to is Life. Always waiting for my hungry soul to find something new. Waiting for my empty heart to finally refill.
No matter the efforts, no matter what beautiful curiosities are brought into the broadening perspective of the picture, the excitement will always hollow. The brightness will always dull. The river will always calm.
I often ponder the strange events of our universe. The impossible, snake-like twists and turns our ragged paths have dragged us through.
Reality is colorfully black and white. Bland. Unchanging. Yet still unbelievable.
Reality fills my body with longing.
The need for something different.
Something more.
Would you call this greed? I wouldn’t say so, though maybe. Does wanting what you don’t have make you selfish?
That depends on how much you’re willing to sacrifice to get it.
Maybe I’m selfish. Of course, I wouldn’t mean to be. The luring hum of possibility can be blinding.
Be careful.
Sometimes there are illusions.
The span of thirty seconds could really be thousands of years.
The span of centuries only a heartbeat.
I often wonder.
The pressure of my own mind can become overwhelming, and the formerly quiet tug on my heart doesn’t help.
What would make me feel healed? The voices of those around me, maybe? But only the right voices.
The river is comfort. The whisper of peace it offers, yet the chaos of its rippling currents. The beauty of its ever-changing colours.
The soft call of music, drawing quiet tears before wiping them away.
The world itself is beautiful. But only from the streaking maple of the darkening sky.
If only I were able to reach it.
