Chapter 1
It was about 7:30 in the morning when Shannon Calitri opened her eyes. She then heard the pulsating music of the Bayside Boys song “The Call” and immediately knew what had woken her. She raised her head off the pillow and proceeded to yell at her twin sister, Shadae.
“Shadae, would you turn that thing down! I’m trying to sleep!!” She dropped her head back onto her pillow, closed her eyes and tried to go back to sleep but the music continued at the same volume.
She flung the purple and green plaid covers off her and swung her legs off the bed. She pushed her hand through her long, black hair to tidy it and went in search of her sister.
She found Shadae sitting by the table, cutting into her favourite, strawberry waffles. Shannon went straight to the iPhone and pressed the stop button.
“Hey!” Shadae cried looking at her mirror image, “I was listening to that!”
Shannon walked over to her sister.
“You listen to that album every single day! Can you at least give it a rest today. It’s our birthday and I want to go back to bed.” Shannon whined.
Her sister looked back at her unmoved. It was like looking into the mirror, she thought every time she faced her sister. They both had the same long, black hair except that Shadae’s had brown highlights in it and the same huge, round eyes and long, curly eyelashes. The only thing different about them was that Shannon’s eyes were green while Shadae’s were hazel. One would have to look at their eyes very closely to tell them apart though.
“Shannon, you can’t go back to bed! At least not until you see what mom and dad gave us for our birthday.” Shadae told her, a twinkle in her eye.
Shannon was wide awake now.
“What?” She asked pulling up a chair and peering intently at her sister, “Don’t tell me it’s…”
“Uh-huh.” Shadae said, a huge smile on her face as she nodded towards the table. Shannon looked down at the table and saw the keys. She shrieked in excitement and grabbing the keys, headed towards the front door of the three bedroom house they shared.
Shadae followed her. When Shannon flung open the door and looked outside she let out an ear piercing scream.
“OhmyGod!!” She cried, walking over to the car and passing her hand over it, “Do you know what this is?”
“Yep. It’s the car dad said he’d never get us no matter how much we begged him.” Shadae supplied.
Shannon opened the car and hopped in behind the steering wheel and shut the door.
Shadae looked at her sister in the driver’s seat of their new silver, Audi Q3 Sport SUV and shook her head. Unlike her sister who thought that this car was the most gorgeous thing on this earth, Shadae thought it was cute and could get her from one place to the next. That was the reason she had helped Shannon beg their father for the car.
“Come on Shad, let’s go for a ride!” Shannon said through the open car window.
“Umm.. why don’t you change and have breakfast first?” Shadae said looking at her sister’s dishevelled hair, sweats and tank top.
“Oh right.” Shannon said suddenly aware of her appearance. She got out of the car, locked it and followed her sister back inside.
“I should have known that daddy would get us this car.” Shannon said, “He gets us everything.”
Shadae gave her a look.
“Well, almost everything.” Shannon corrected herself when she caught her sister’s look and remembered when they were eighteen and Shadae insisted on having a motorcycle but their father had vehemently denied her.
They both walked back to the table and sat down so Shadae could finish her breakfast.
“Aren’t you going back to sleep now?” Shadae teased.
“You know I’m too excited to sleep now.” Shannon said, her eyes fell on an envelope on the table then. “What’s this?” she asked, picking up the envelope and opening it. She groaned when she read the tickets.”Oh, that’s what Matt sent us as our birthday gift.” Shadae said referring to their twenty-five year old brother.
“Am I seeing two front row tickets plus backstage passes to a Bayside Boys concert?” Shannon asked dryly.
“Yep. Plus we got passes for the after party as well! Isn’t that cool!” Shadae said a huge smile on her face.
Shannon rolled her eyes.
“Sis, we’re twenty-one now. Don’t you think you should get over this whole boyband thing?” she asked. Personally, Shannon had nothing against the Bayside Boys. Their music was okay but from the few times that she’s seen them on TV, she still couldn’t figure out what the big deal was with these guys.
“Shannon, you know I can’t help it!” Shadae told her, “That Rick Camden… DAMN! If I ever meet him, I’m gonna rape him!”
“Then we’re keeping you far away from that concert!” Shannon told her with raised eyebrows.
Shadae stuck her tongue out at her but continued.
“Anyways, the concert is tonight and if we’re gonna be looking-“
“Excuse me, WE?” Shannon cut in.
“Yeah. You’re coming with me.” Shadae said as if that was supposed to have been understood.
“Oh no. no way am I going to that concert with you and a thousand other screaming girls who are going to peel off their underwear and throw it onstage.” Shannon insisted.
“Shannon, you’re exaggerating. We don’t peel off our underwear and throw it on stage.” Shadae said, “We carry extra underwear to throw on stage.”
Shannon got up and headed back to her room.
“Whatever. The point is I’m not going and there’s no way on this earth you’re gonna make me go!” she tossed over her shoulder.
