Chapter 1
It was dark in the store. It was always dark, since I am in the last row. Where I was, it would be years before someone even glimpsed me.
It’s not that I wasn’t the most amazing toy in the store that every kid wanted, but not that many kids put “Super Bunny Mission X” on the top of their Christmas list. I wouldn’t blame them, I mean, who would want a fat fluffy bunny that is equipped with ammo and a radar gun?
I was making a plan in my head. If I was on shelf 2, and there were three others in front of me, then I would be getting out of here in a year and a half, and that’s only if we have a clearance sale.
Let me tell you, Super Bunny Mission X’s aren’t that lightweight, especially when you have three of them to push out of the way. After half an hours of trying to push even one of those stupid bunnies off the shelf. Do you know how close I got? Not close enough. It was time to hatch a new plan.
I tried to talk to Marvin in front of me, but he just whispered, “I must stay in character”.
“Marvin, you don’t need to stay in character. You only do that when you are in the front row. And this plan will get you to the front!” I said excitedly.
“SHHHH! They might hear you!” Marvin answered, then I could hear a hopeful expression crinkle through the plastic across his face. “You know, I’ve always wanted to be in the front row, and you know, I’m getting pretty old. My battery, I can feel it getting weaker. We’ll start tomorrow”.
“Great! Wait, do you think that you could tell Joe in front of you the same thing?” I asked.
I could feel the bock push against me; Marvin nodded.
The next morning, our plan was set. All of us, including me, pushed and pushed until we could push no more. Then, it happened. The first bunny fell to the ground with a crash someone shrieked.
“Ahhhh!” a tiny voice said. I could hear the plastic screen crumple under a child’s sticky jellybean grip. “Mommy, why does this bunny have a gun on it?“.
“Give it to me!” A deeper, more annoying voice screeches. I hear a snap as the older one takes it away from the little one. “Whoa cool! Ammo and everything!“.
“Hey, I saw it first!“.
“Did not! And what would YOU do with a war bunny like this?“.
“Because.“.
“That’s not a good reason!“.
“Is too!“.
“Children! What are you bickering about now?“.
“I want this toy!“.
“No, I want it!“.
“Look, we can get you each a toy. See, Amaria, you take this one, and Mason, you have this one,” I could feel shuffling of cardboard in front of me; she was reaching for Joe.
I was in shock, not believing what I was hearing. Not just one but two bunnies gone! Now I just need to get Marvin out of the way.
“Psst. Marvin. You need to move down further, I’m getting cramped,” I said, which was true. The lady that grabbed Joe smashes us further into the back wall. I also wanted him to scoot down... so I could push him off. I forgot. Marvin is now in character. No matter how hard I’ve tried, Marvin won’t move, talk or even blink. Then, something extraordinary happened. We were having a sale.
“Hellloooo shippers! Welcome to Manny’s Miscellaneous Mischief! We are having a sale today on the Super Bunny Mission X’s! Buy 1 get 1 free! Bye bye!“.
I held my breath. Maybe, possibly. No, not likely, right? But yes, it was possible. Soon a mob crowded into the aisle, grabbing the bunnies. Someone even grabbed Marvin and me.
After about 2 months of living in Claudia’s room, teat time and makeovers started to get, well, a little boring. That night, I snuck into Max’s room, Lucy’s younger brother. Let me tell you, Max is no peach to play with either. He only wants to play Bunny vs. Monster Trucks, and I’ve lost fur just thinking about it. So, now I stay in Max’s room, his drool is coated into my ears. And I have tea with Lucy and Marvin, and sometimes, even with Max.
