Taehyung was bored. Boredom was the most prevalent feeling to him right now. He was sat on a train waiting for it to leave the station. He may be complaining about his boredom but he always does this to himself, so he gained the hobby of people watching.
He would always sit and watch the people walking by the train. Always wondering why they were in a rush or why they were taking their time. What food they were ordering and why they weren’t ordering something else. It was a way to pass the time before he could go home. But one day, when he was staring out of the window, this boy walked by and for some reason Taehyung’s eyes were immediately drawn to him.
The boy had caramel brown hair and the only thing he could see on the boys face was the wide doe eyes that were looking at everything in front of him. The boy just seemed so new, like he had never been in a train station before.
Taehyung kept watching him, wondering where the cute boy was going to go. The caramel boy turned into the café and went to push the door. Little did he know that it was a pull door and you didn’t have to push it to open it. He stumbled into the door, eliciting a small laugh from Taehyung that luckily the other didn’t see.
The caramel topped male then pulled open the door and disappeared into the café. Coming out shortly after with what looked to be a hot chocolate in his hand. He then looked either side of him, as if to check that no one had seen him enter or leave there. After realising that there was no one there the male quickly opened the doors to the carriage and hopped into it.
As he turned the corner to the seating Taehyung got a better look at him and not only was their eyes beautiful, but the boy was beautiful and the aura around him just seemed like a mix of the earlier embarrassment and a sort of innocence. The said boy looked around and spotted a seat in the corner near Taehyung. As he stepped forward the two of them made eye contact and it was as if the world had stopped for a few seconds.
The two of them quickly looked away from each other, a small blush covering their cheeks. The silence would have been suffocating if it wasn’t for the couple down the other end of the train whos voices could be faintly heard.
Taehyung looked back through the window but realised that he could see the other in the reflection, so he peaked and saw the other moving his hand up to take one of the strings of his mask off.
Taehyung’s socks were knocked off. He had never seen such a pretty boy while trainspotting. He just sat and stared at the other for a minute until he noticed that those doe eyes were locked onto his. His face started to feel warm as his cheeks gained a redder colour and he darted his eyes to his lap. He can’t believe he got caught staring, but even more he can’t believe how pretty the stranger was, he reminded him of a bunny in some aspects.
After Taehyung’s cheeks had lost their bright red tint he looked back in the window, trying to watch the people on the platform but ultimately getting sidetracked by looking at the caramel topped boy. The mentioned one was just sat looking at his thumbs as he fiddled with his fingers.
Taehyung never felt the small smile that formed onto his face. He was just so mesmerised. The shy one looked up and gave Taehyung a small, sweet smile. His heart skipped a beat and he gave a small smile back.
The two of them could feel the awkward tension that was suffocating, but neither of them were confident enough to actually start a conversation with the other.
They were sat in silence for another five minutes before a voice came over the system.
“Due to a coupling chain malfunction on the last carriage we are going to have to ask all of you in the final carriage to move to the other carriages at the front of the train. Thank you for understanding and I hope you enjoy your journey.”
Taehyung started to pick up his bag and get moving when he bumped into someone. He looked up and stared into those doe eyes that were widened, like he was a deer in headlights.
“Sorry” was all Taehyung could mumble before taking a step back and standing properly. The other only gave him an eye smile and quietly shuffled by him.
The two of them made their way through the carriage and into the next. When Taehyung went into the carriage he saw that there weren’t many seats available and that the caramel boy had taken one of the last free duo seats. He was trying to decide whether to buck up the courage to ask the doe or to have to sit next to the slimy people on the train.
Taehyung decided that he needed to pluck up the courage to ask the pretty boy because who knows what the other people are like. So he shuffled his way to the seat and stood there for a second before asking. “Hi, I was wondering if I could sit next to you. You seem like a nice person and I don’t know what everyone else could be like.”
His rambling was stopped when the other let out a small chuckle and moved his bag onto his lap, patting the seat next to him in a friendly manner. Taehyung sat down and awkwardly held his shoulders in, as if he was afraid they would annoy the other.
He heard a muffled giggle before there was the end of a sleeve in front of him. Taehyung looked up and saw the expectant doe eyes and immediately put his hand in his sleeve and shook the strangers hand.
“Guess I should introduce myself, I’m Jungkook.” Was all he said before giving Taehyung an eye smile.
“Oh, I’m Taehyung” was all he could muster himself to come out with. It didn’t seem to matter though because another little giggle was released from Jungkook. Taehyung just wanted to hear more of his voice so he tried to come up with a question on the spot. “Which stop are you getting off at?”
“I’m getting off at the second stop, what about you which one are you getting off at?”
“The first, so I guess you’ll get a seat to yourself soon” Taehyung joked, once again receiving a little giggle from the other.
The two of them sat chatting with each other before the train started to move. As the scenery went by Taehyung looked over to the window, seeing the bare trees move by at an insane speed. However he didn’t notice that while he was admiring the scenery Jungkook was looking right at him, wondering what he looked like under the mask.
Taehyung felt a pair of yes watching him and looked down to meet Jungkook’s gaze. Unsurprisingly looking like a deer in headlights. A chesty laugh came out from Taehyung, having to look down and try to calm his breathing in order to stop, even though it wasn’t that funny.
After a couple of minutes they were once again sat there in silence, not knowing what to say. The train continued to chug on, while the two of them just sat in a tensed silence.
There was rustling from a seat a little bit down the carriage. Taehyung turned round in his seat, to look at what was making the noise and found a weird man sat on one of the table seats ruffling through a plastic bag, he could take an easy guess of what was in there.
So he turned back around, this time there was a pair of doe eyes looking at him as if they were asking him what he was looking at. “There was some rustling, I was just curious on what it was.” For some reason Taehyung felt like he had to explain what he was doing to Jungkook.
Jungkook just nodded as his eyes seemed to smile at taehyung before her turned back round to face the window. The train ride was quiet, as no one likes to speak to strangers really on the train, but Taehyung was dead set on trying to get a conversation started with Jungkook. He just didn’t know how.
“So why did you need to take the train today?” Taehyung asked, rather awkwardly, not knowing what else they could talk about.
“Oh, I had go in and take my final exam, before spring break” Jungkook explained, giving a look to Taehyung that was saying, what about you.
“I had classes and they ended earlier than usual, therefore I can go home and relax earlier” Taehyung answered, while staring into Jungkook’s eyes.
After that it seemed like the dam was broken because the two of them couldn’t stop talking. It was nonstop, they barely had time to realise that Taehyung’s stop had just been called, meaning that he was meant to be getting ready to leave the train.
It wasn’t until the familiar scenery of Taehyung’s station came into view did the two stop talking. Taehyung could se that Jungkook looked down, as if he wanted to say something but was holding himself back.
Out of the blue Taehyung put his phone in the others eyeline and stood up. His phone was opened to the add contact page and already had Jungkook’s name typed in, just awaiting the number. A small smile broke out onto Jungkook’s face, though Taehyung didn’t notice because of his mask, and he quickly typed in his number and handed the phone back.
With the wave of a hand the train doors opened and Taehyung walked out.
Jungkook heard a ping from his phone and picked it up to see a message from a new number. This was how Taehyung’s trainspotting may have changed his life forever.
