Survival of a Nation

Captain Vincent paced on the pier while checking his watch while at the far end of the pier there is a barricade of tanks, barriers and a squad of soldiers while further in the distance there is sound of cries and yells of anger within Port City and smoke bellowing in multiple spots within. Vincent looked grim and called out, “Lt. Lighter, any word on the royal family?” Lt. Lighter pulled out his radio, behind the captain, and talked to the communications officer on the other end and after a few moments the Lt. began sounding confused and then talking angrily. Captain Vincent looked concerned and over his left shoulder at the Lt. and asked (with concern), “Lt., what is it?” Lt. Lighter’s face is nearly chalk white as he approached the captain and replied, “Sir.....the royal family.....they’ve been ambushed.” Vincent turned to Lighter and did not revealed his shock to the news and he asked (as he kept his grim composure), “What do you mean, ambushed?” Lighter replied, “The motorcade made it to the train station and the royal family were about to board when the citizens broke through the police and National Guard barricades with improvised shields and armaments and attacked them as they started a massive riot. The only member of the royal family we can confirm that is on the train safely is the young royal princess, Alexandra.” Vincent controlled his anger as he asked, “What happened to the rest of the royal family?” Lighter answered with regret, “They’re dead sir. Trampled and beaten by the out of controlled mob.” Vincent clinched his fists and he asked, “What about the status of Congress, the President and the High Judges?” Lighter answered, “The High Judges have made it to the train, including the President, but the Vice President’s motorcade was attacked by rioters and confirmed that the motorcade is completely destroyed and the VP is dead.” Vincent asked, “What about Congress?” Lighter replied, “They’re all gone sir. The rioters swarmed the Capitol Building and broke through the barricades. When they got inside they beaten and murdered all the congressmen and women as if they’re madmen.” Vincent said, “The looters, protestors and rioters are all mad LT., especially if they are all willing to destroy this country.” Vincent turned back forward to not show his anger and disgust as he asked, “When will the train arrive?” Lighter asked on his hand held radio before he replied, “The conductor said they should arrive at the station within four hours sir.” Vincent looked on at the port city as its being destroyed by protestors, looters and riots as he mumbled to himself, “Hopefully those vermin’s don’t come here sooner.” And he turned away and headed back towards the twin barreled, four main turret battleship CSS Frederick that is docked on the starboard side of the pier while the formally decommissioned cruise liner CSS Queen Victoria docked on the port side with a haze of smoke blowing out of its four smoke stakes as it stood ready to receive its very important passengers as within side of the ship held what is left of the history of the nation.
