Chapter 1-Shit face

There she stood, staring at her now empty dorm. Emptiness clogging her mind. Emotions running deep. Four years in an all girls boarding school and she has no choice but to leave the only place she ever knew. Life sure felt unfair towards her, the only thing she could do was muster up the courage to face a new world, a new life outside the walls of Eden Secondary school for girls
“You’re ready dear?” asks Headmistress Helen, peeping in through the doorway.
“Yeah!” Ryan replies softly, slowly turning towards the door. Her throat filled with blocked words and eyes flooded with unshed tears
“I’m proud of you, Ryan" Ms Helen starts off. "WE ALL ARE!" The staff yell in unison. Each and everyone of them trying to make Ryan feel a little bit better
"We wish you nothing but the best in your future Ryan" says Natalia, her maths tutor
"With all that you've been through these past few years you deserve all the happiness the universe has to offer my dear” Ms Helen says tearfully walking towards Ryan
Holding back tears, a knot forming in her throat. Ryan tries to hide her emotions as she's always done before but this time it seems mere impossible
“Thank you Ms Helen” Says Ryan hoarsely, her eyes flooded with tears
"Oh come here dear" Ms Helen says, holding onto Ryan, both breaking down
“You’ve been my strength at Eden Secondary mam... I don't think I'd have made it without you" Ryan says staring at the Headmistress with bloodshot eyes
"I am truly grateful for all that you have done for me” She continues crying on Ms Helen's shoulder, holding onto her with all her might. The intercom the only thing interrupting them
”Ryan Oliver, Ryan Oliver, please make your way to entrance one as your driver is awaiting your arrival”
Wiping their tears away, each grabbing a duffle bag and suitcase making there way downstairs. Ryan bids goodbye to everyone and hops in the back seat of the car heading towards the airport
Upon boarding the plane, negative thoughts overpower Ryan's mind "How would she do it?" she wonders "How would she start over in a new state leaving behind so many memories?" that's the reality she is currently facing but all is well that ends well
At last the flight is over. Walking towards the gate, headphones on her head. Ryan's knocked out of thought by the screaming of a woman's voice,
"Ryan, Ry! Over here!" Is all she hears while searching through the crowd. There stood her sister holding a welcome board near her chest. It's the first time they have seen each other since the funeral. Riley waited three years for this moment,three years it took the U.S government to grant approval of citizenship on behalf of Ryan and things have finally worked out as it should have.
The two sisters run towards one another, crying and holding on to each other like their life depended on it.
"Hey, Beautiful" Says Riley. Her eyes glossy with tears
Ryan can't seem to form a coherent sentence. Her loneliness washed away by the sudden touch of her sibling. This is what she needed, family is what she longed for, all she did was hold on to her sister, crying her heart out
"It's OK Pumpkin. You're here with me now, I promise you everything will better" Riley says kissing the top of her head soothing poor Ryan
With those simple words relief powered through her body. It's as if a mountain was released from her shoulders. Riley's voice, as sweet as her mothers, she thought. Filled with peace and that's how Ryan knew everything would be fine
A month has passed since Ryan's arrival, she has settled in well. The two sister's sure had a lot of catching up to do. Riley made sure her sisters life would be better here after the trauma she endured back home.
Ryan loves South Africa but the sadness and hurt she felt was engraved in her heart, which made her forcefully forget her hometown.
Riley introduced Ryan to everyone she knew and out of all she loved meeting her Best friend, Mel.
Mel is a kind soul who owns a beautiful diner and takes care of her niece Leah, who is just as kind too
Leah and Ryan clicked almost instantly, she introduced Ryan to a few of her friends.
Cade and Casey whom are twins, Jessie who lives on their block and Sheena who is Leah's BFF.
Ryan never had any friends and this sure felt like she belonged, plus they made the transition to the States so much easier.
August 20th, 2024
Needing some additional things for school, Ryan needs to head over to the store. Entering the garage, she stops abrubtly near her fathers car. She sadly stares at the vehicle reflecting back on how her Dad promised her driving lessons when she would return from boarding school by the end of the second trimester
Shutting down her emotions, once again. She takes her sisters old bicycle.
Cruising down the street, the sun beaming on her face "How beautiful is Cali" she thought. The thought of her living in America made her overwhelmed. Here she was a new person, no one knew her sad story and here she actually made friends.
Ryan's POV
Mom never allowed me to have any guy friends, she would never let me be close to any guy ( Hence why I attended an all girls school). She would shoo them away like flies" I laugh at the thought and the next thing I know I'm lying face down on the ground
I check my surroundings, feeling a sharp pain bolster through my leg.I look down and my knee is scraped. I slowly get up, lifting my now wrecked bike too
"ARE YOU INSANE!" Some guy yells, storming my way
"Excuse me?" I say, trying to register why he's so mad at me, when I'm the one who's hurt.
"Oh God" he says pinching the bridge of he's nose and continues saying " I know you type normally do this shit, but literally throwing yourself at me damn!! How desperate can one be!" He spits angrily
I'm completely dumbstruck by what this idiot says
"You really think you're that irresistible? I question him. "Not every girl wants a piece of you SHITFACE" I retort trying to adjust my bike
"YOU'RE A GIRL! I thought you were a dude" He says mockingly
"Stay calm Ryan, stay calm" I utter softly trying to compose myself
"Listen, I am not in the mood for your silly, immature jokes. I'm hurt, my bike is wrecked and you're wasting my time, on top of that I need to walk home! If you so worried about that small bump on your car, go to Mel's diner and ask anyone there to give you my address and send me a bill okay!" I calmly yell and left him standing
Author's POV
Stirring he's cereal in circular motion, head filled with all sorts of regret but all he can think of is school. Messing up he's senior year, now he needs to rectify he's mistakes. Where should he start, how should he fix he's broken life?
"You're Okay there Nixon?" He's Mum ask, concerned
"Uhm, yeah!" Says Nixon, shaking he's head
"Listen Nick" He's Dad begins
"I know Dad..." He tries saying with he's head hanging in shame but he's dad cuts him off instantly
"Look we know this past couple of months has been quite rough for you. We've been hard on you too and things have not been easy but your Mum and I want to let you know that we're super proud of you, Son!
You my boy, are the walking definition of HARDWORK! And that means you deserve to be rewarded for all your efforts" He's Dad says, smiling
Nixon looks up at he's dad feeling a lump grow in he's throat. He cannot fathom the words coming from he's father's mouth, he thought he was about to be lectured once again.
"Here!" Is all he's father says handing him a small red box following Nixon out the back door
He opens the little box and oh my god was he impressed
"You guys fixed her!" Nixon say in disbelief
"Yep" They both say nodding, with laughter
"How, when, why?" He exclaims all at once checking out the renewed car
"We called in a few favors " Says he's mum
"Like I told you before, you deserve this" Says he's dad
"Wow she looks brand new" He says in Awe
"I can't believe you guys did this for me! Nixon says still in disbelief
"Go on take her for a spin" Both of them say in sync
And just like that Nixon knew with he's Mustang by he's side everything would fall into place
An hour later...
Driving through town , music on full blast, clearing he's head Nixon notice beautiful, long black hair swaying in the air. He's completely mesmerized by the sight but gets knocked to he's senses by a sudden thump.
Nixon's POV
I hit brakes and practically jump out the door to check my car, my parents just had her fixed and I sure can't be in the dog box this easily. They would assume I'm not ready for this.
As I'm inspecting for any major damages I see a girl in a bit of pain, with a wrecked bike by her side
"Are you insane!" I yell walking towards her, with all my anger kicking in
She looks up at me with ocean, blue eyes and confusingly says "Excuse me?"
The air sure got knocked out of me by the beauty radiating from this girl, but I needed to stay composed and stand my ground
"Oh God" I say pinching the bridge of my nose as I feel my anger arise and before I know what I'm doing I say " I know you type normally do this shit, but literally throwing yourself at me damn how desperate can one be!" I say bitterly
"You really think you're that irresistible? Not every girl wants a piece of you SHITFACE!” She says
And just like that my anger diminished, she's as red as a tomato and the sight was hilarious
“YOU’RE A GIRL!, I thought you were a dude” I say with laughter, trying to lighten the mood
She takes a deep breath not falling for my good humor and mumbles something incoherent blowing my head off
“Listen pal, I am not in the mood for your silly, immature jokes. I’m hurt, my bike is wrecked and you’re wasting my damn time on top of that I need to walk home! If you so worried about that small bump on your car, go to Mel’s diner and ask anyone there to give you my address and send me a bill okay!” She says in a passive yet firm tone which completely stuns me
I check my car and see a small bump on the drivers side, I open my door but see a black L.F.C snapback lying on the ground. I pick it up and see "RY" written on the inside. It's probably hers and it looks good too so I put it on my head and drive off
Ryan's POV
I open the door to Mel's diner when Leah spots me
"What happened to you?" she asks concerned
"Some idiot drove into me and shift the blame on me! How dare he, who does he think he is, the Mayor. I swear I'll......"
"Okey, dokey! One peppermint crisp tart coming up" Leah cuts me off
I stare up at her and we both start laughing
"Oh my, I sure let this guy get under my skin" I say sadly, face palming myself
"Was he hot though?" asks Leah, amused
"Leah!" I yell annoyed
"IT'S FINE IF YOU WANT HIM ALL TO YOURSELF!" Leah yells mockingly, walking off to the kitchen
"That's not the case...." I try saying but she already disappeared
Oh my I guess I'm never hearing the end of this story
