Chapter 1

I wondered for my whole life why I was different, and I never seemed to get the answer. I lied in my room, and did nothing but think hours on end about what could possibly be wrong, and I soon came to the conclusion that I'd never know why. Well, that's what I had thought. Turns out I just needed to turn 13. Hello, my name's Derick, and here's my story.

"Ugh," I groaned as I sat up from my bed after a 3 hour nap. "What time is it?" I mumbled to myself as I looked toward the clock on my bedside. "8:02!?"

I'm gonna be late to school, I thought while panicking.

After a very short while, I had already been dressed and my hair had been messily combed due to the lack of time to comb it neatly.

I rushed down stairs to my mother reading a magazine at the dinner table.

"Good morning, mother." I mumbled. My mother--Karen Baker--just looked up at me and then looked back down to whatever she was reading.

You see--due to my mother's rich blonde hair and ocean blue eyes that you could just drown in (blah!), she had been a famous model in the industry for years, and so she was packed with money.

"Well, I'm off to school, mother." I said softly while I walked toward the front door.

"Take out the trash while you're at it." Mother said in a very distracted manner as she was staring at something in the paper.

I sighed and said, "Yes, mother." and I went outside.

"I'm definitely late! I'm definitely late!" I said as I ran toward first period--gym.

I soon made it to the locker room and changed into my gym clothes.

"Sorry Mrs. Hillary for being late." I apologized. Mrs. Hillary just rolled her eyes and said it was fine, and sent me with the others. We were doing kickball--how fun...

I was in the middle of opening my locker when I heard a voice call my name.

"Hey, Derick! How was the weekend?" Asked the familiar voice. I turned around.

"Hey Adam, the weekend was fine, nothing really out of the usual. What about you?" I asked.

"Eh, same. Nothing really exciting or important happened this weekend." Replied Adam.

"Oh, lookie here. A brown haired boy with ocean blue eyes, and a blondie with brown eyes. What a match. So, what are you guys talking about?" Said someone out of nowhere.

I turned around once again to see Elizabeth, my friend... or is it acquaintance? Well, I don't know, we aren't really that close. I'm just an average looking brown haired boy, while she had the most beautiful red hair I'd ever seen, and her brown gorgeous eyes matched perfectly with her as well. How could I ever be friends with perfection such as that. Well, I kinda already am--being friends with Adam and all. He is quite perfect himself. He has golden blonde hair with brown eyes that just matched. Where am I getting these kinds of friends from?

"Oh, nothing really. We were just asking each other how our weekends were." I said to Elizabeth.

"Well, for my weekend, me and my parents went to the pet store to pick up a dog! I've always wanted one, and my parents knew that and decided I was ready for one. All I've been doing all weekend was playing with the little puppy and feeding it. Despite it being a little bit of a workout at times, it wasn't all that bad." Elizabeth just rambled on and on about her weekend, and all I did was stare out into space and nod my head once in awhile.

"Oh, looks like I need to get to class, catch up with you later. Bye!" Yelled out Elizabeth as she started to run to her class.

Adam just turned towards me and said, "Well, later dude." I just replied with a "Ok, see yah." and turned away towards my next class--social studies.

It was the end of the school day, and as I was packing up after a very stressful, very hard math test, I was greeted by by buddy Adam.

"Hey," Said Adam as he put his hand up in a swift motion to say hello.

"Wassup. How did your day go?" I asked Adam.

"It went fairly well I have to say. Though, school sucks, so I doubt it'll ever be that good." Replied Adam. "So, how'd you think you did on the test?"

"Horrible." I said bluntly. "Even though I had studied until the ungodly hours of the night, I had forgotten half of it, and was confused as frick on the test. How do you think you did?"

"I myself have no doubting bone in my body that I have failed the test with a grade probably lower than 50%. Anyway--why are you such a pussy when it comes to saying swear words? Its not like they bite." Said Adam.

"Tch, whatever." I said, wanting to move on, but not knowing what else to say.

"You getting attitude with me now?" Said Adam in a joking manner. I just ignored him.

"Yo, dude, have you heard of the new TV show called Ambrose? It may sound lame, I have to say, but once you start watching--it's really good!" Yelled Adam excitedly.

"No, I haven't. Was it really that good?" I asked.

"Mhm." Adam nodded his head.

I contemplated it for a moment, then said. "Maybe I could come over sometime and watch it with you." Adam's eyes sparkled, and you could tell he was excited.

"I can't wait!!" As soon as Adam said that, he stopped in his tracks. "I just realized that we walked past my house."

"Mhm, I know." I said in a very obvious tone.

"Well, why didn't you tell me!?" Exclaimed Adam.

"Uh... I was waiting for you to notice... you dumb ass." I said nervously as I stuttered through some words.

Adam just smiled and rubbed the back of his head. "Just tell me next time, ok?" Adam's manner soon changed. "And I ain't now dumb ass."

"Well..." I said, replying to Adam's remark.

"Well, see yah!" Yelled out Adam as he waved good bye. I waved back.

"Bye!"

I was only about 2 minutes away from my house when I saw it--a black figure, about 5'9. The figure had some rather interesting features as it appeared that the figure had a horn shaped thing above it's head, and a tail that was thick and quite noticeable.

I just stood there for a good 15 seconds or so, contemplating on what to do. As the seconds went by, and the guy stood there, still, my anxiety grew. I was terrified. Before I got to do anything, the figure came out of the shadows.

I was about to scream my head off, but then I saw that it was just some normal old dude in a sweat shirt and some jeans.

"Uhm- sir, why are you behind that tree?" I asked.

"Sorry, I'm not good with people, and so I hide behind trees to hide myself away from them. I was just gonna stand there and wait 'till you went away before I moved, but I saw that you had started to get scared, so I just decided to tell you that I'm not trying to hurt you." Said the stranger in a soft, quiet, and obviously embarrassed tone.

I have no doubt that this experience was quite a strange one, but I just let it go. It's not like it'd give me any harm anyway... right?

As I walked the rest of the way home, I wondered about what had just happened. Each time I tried to forget what had happened, it just came back even more intense. Was that guy following me, or was he telling the truth? It looked like he was some sort of mutant... but that was just my eyes playing tricks on me. Just my eyes playing tricks on me... I thought.

"Eh, whatever." I mumbled to myself out loud, stubbornly forcing the thoughts out of me. I soon had just forgotten about it.
