"Great concept and voice. DKS really has a knack for making his writing voice very clear. However, plot wise there’s a lot to be desired. Mainly, how we jump from Thomas watching the slaves fuck to him getting fuck himself? That’s huge and the story is totally missing the lead up to that. How did Thomas reconcile the inner struggles with his sexuality on top of him reconciling have sex with black men, whom thought to have been inferior specimens? The best stories are character driven, not plot driven and you have a lot of characters motivations and goals to explore here. "
