{heartbreaking lie}
-Prologue-
The sky floats away from me. I fall and fall and fall, buildings rushing by as I gain speed. I close my eyes and let the darkness take me, shutting out the falling sky.
As the world falls, the sky grows larger, the universe expanding as the sun kisses the edge with colors of spilled orange across the horizon. It’s a beautiful sight, something no one in any other position could fully experience. Falling, falling, falling until the world disappears in a sudden moment of silence and everything- everything stops.
I feel more alive now than I ever have before, falling until the end of time. In this moment, I feel larger than life as a warm feeling engulfs me in a comforting, friendly way. Capturing me in safety. Life swivels and wind whistles in my ear, a piercing sharpness to it. Everything is fuzzy, hazy, and I can’t think- it’s all numb. It all grows darker and darker, the sky larger and larger. My skin is icy and pale, buildings rushing by and everything stretching farther and farther.
In the corner of my eye, I spot a shady outline of a familiar figure. My eyes widen, swirling with fresh tears. “James,” I let out a choked gasp. A blink, and he’s gone.
The world is spinning and my head feels like it’s underwater, but I find myself smiling softly in the cold quiet wisps of the air. I never knew the sky was this beautiful, and the clouds are outlined with a golden highlight. A perfect glimpse, a captured moment of the world uniquely with this moment. The sky doesn’t reflect how I had been feeling, but instead glistens around me with a golden glow, touching the darkness with soft warmth. Everything is at a standstill, and I don’t listen to the background anymore. The distant train, the speeding cars somewhere near, the rustling leaves- it all silences into this still, paused moment in time.

And so, it begins.
