Chapter 1
“There will come a time when you will think that everything is over; that will be the beginning.” Louis L’Amour
Chapter | • 1- The beginning
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have children’s bedtime stories come true? Fairies fly free in the sky or when you walk down the street you pass elves. Vampires hide from the sun during the day and at night they all meet for a glass of blood at the best bar. Or there is a special class at school where you can practice magic with the help of witches.
I have always believed that supernatural beings exist in the real world and not just in stories. I always had the feeling that in the forest that surrounds the city, somewhere among the trees, although there are vampires or werewolves, and the fairies live in houses in trees created by them. There were all sorts of legends about vampires that no one believed, just me and little kids.
It was said that some people were walking in the streets of Leeds at night on the streets of the city, no one knew why, and even bodies were found in some places where darkness prevailed even during the day, on old streets that were almost trampled by no one. Ten years ago, an attack took place in the park and a person was found in a pool of blood peeled from the skin and had a rather large bite in the neck. In the news and in the newspapers, any source reports that the attack was carried out by a wild animal so that no one tried to look for other clues that would lead to the real killer. I was seven years old at the time, and the only thing I knew how to do was look at cartoons, but now I want to know what the creature was that really scared everyone for so many years. Of course, now everyone has forgotten about all this and people are walking quietly on the streets, without other rumors about the "wild animal" or anything else. We live normally even if some still remember. I found out from the old newspapers kept in a box somewhere in the attic. I found them by chance two years ago when I was looking for an old bracelet that had long since been lost by me. That would be a mystery long buried in the history of the city by people who chose to forget this detail. Another mystery would have been that in a house on the outskirts of the city lived a vampire hunter who died until these mysterious attacks in the middle of the night appear. He promised that vampires would exist and one day they would want their city back, that they would attack us and destroy anyone who stood in their way. Of course no one believed him, they said he was crazy and delusional. He also specified that these vampires lived in this city a hundred years ago when we humans disappeared into the forest near the edge of the city, living quietly away from us. That man, the vampire hunter, was at least ninety years old when he told his relatives about this legend, which they later told to other people, and that's how it went all over town. And there are many more. Everyone has created a legend about the mysterious attack, some say that a wild animal came from the forest, others say that they are vampires from the words of the hunter or simply a serial killer who likes to slaughter people found in the middle of the night walking on the street . people, we came disappeared in the woods near the edge of town, living quietly away from us. However, vampires would be the most realistic proof that the people found on the street were only blood with a huge wound in the neck area.
Being absorbed in the legends of this city for years I read about them. I have the room decorated with books about paranormal beings and still unsolved mysteries. I take advantage of the fact that my parents are going to a party tonight and I'm going with my girlfriend to maybe clean suicide. Julia Roberts, a trusted friend who has been with me since I was a child, agreed with my crazy idea of researching the best source of information I know about this city. The hunter's house. They were on the outskirts of town, only a thirty-minute walk from my house. I've been thinking for a long time about what she's hiding, but I was afraid she'd found the exact monster inside her that had killed thousands. I'll be honest with you, I'm still scared and I know it's not my brightest idea but honestly what could go wrong? Getting bloodied by a handsome vampire isn't such a bad idea if it really looks exactly like the ones in the books.
I quickly grab my backpack where I stuffed a flashlight and a wooden spike. I bought it two years ago when I visited Dracula's house. My mother thought I wasted my money on nothing, but I think it would be useful. I walk out of the house and find Julia sitting on the sidewalk eating a bag of chips. She turned her head when my presence behind her rang out, canceling her chance to scare her again.
- It was time to show up. What took you so long?
-Sorry I have super protective parents and I should break the door lock so I can get out.
- Are you locked in the house while I'm away? You're almost eighteen, how long are you going to keep it that way?
- Until I leave home? Or never. Now leaving that aside, I'd like to get to the hunter's house before he gets inserted. Not for nothing, but as long as we're not sure the legends are true, I don't want to spend too much time in a house in the middle of the night.
-It's only six.
-Exactly. By eight we have to be back home because by nine it's already dark. So let's go once.
It is said that after the hunter's death, the world wanted to know the other secrets of the world. Being an old man who has gone through great adventures over the years, they thought that in his house there is much more evidence that the house says so about the so-called vampires that he kept talking about. People who believed in his words were eager to find out what he was hiding in his house so a woman with a friend entered the house, or went and searched for maps, books any house find out much more and prove to those who they didn't think the legend was true, but when they got hold of a book that was the hunter's diary, the man's neck was broken by a creature that had not appeared since yesterday, the woman tried to run away and was about to step out of the haunted house. he was freeing her, but suddenly the door closed, the woman had screamed for help, but no one heard her. Nobody knows what happened to that woman, some say she managed to escape and others say she died as soon as she screamed. It is said that the creature is still there, but there is no clear evidence that this story of scaring children is true.
When we got to the front of the house, we both stopped. He seems to have a little more and is collapsing. What are the chances that once we enter the ceiling, it will fit in our heads?
I go up the few steps and reach the front doors. I raise my hand and want to open the door, but I lower it. Half of me want to go in and find out what really happened, why the hunter died suddenly, why people who came in here disappeared what is the creature hidden in the darkness of the house but the other side of me doesn't want that, wants to he returns home and continues to draw to listen to music and let the stories of the past be in the past. I admit the fear, maybe the legend is true, maybe as soon as we stepped into the house we won't be able to get out and we will be just skeletons in front of the doors. Already trembling.
- Are you running out of batteries?
"I don't know if it was the wisest idea to come here."
"Kara, we haven't dragged this house, we're just going back home." So you better open the door and go inside.
-And if everything I've heard about this place is true, if ...
Oh, no, I don't think so.
I stop talking when I see Julia enter the house victoriously. Officer and I follow her as soon as I step in. The door behind me closes tightly. I look at Julia who has a face you say she saw a screaming station in unison and I approach her still screaming. I take my flashlight trembling and turn it on, looking around. In the dark you can see the plaster falling from the walls, the paintings that were supposed to attack the wall are down from the living room furniture, as if torn by a wild animal. Wild animal! This is the creature that attacks those people! I swallow hard as I walk carefully into another room that looks like a kitchen. I have Julia hold the flashlight while I search through the tattered drawers and cabinets that you can barely open because of the rust. In the drawer I found a beautiful wooden tea set next to other silver daggers I think. I take it and unwrap it and then put it behind my pants. I keep looking but I can't find anything. I continue my investigation by climbing the dusty wooden steps that no longer have much and will give way. I went into the bedroom with a bed as if it had come from antiquity next to it, with two bedside tables as dusty as any other piece of furniture in this house. Bingo. Under the bed I found a small box in which what to see were some harassed with very nice handwriting on them. They have one and I'm approaching Juli's house so I can see what I'm reading. - ~ September 24, 1900 ~
A fantastic discovery I was able to learn today from my walk through the nearby forest. A dark forest full of droughts to be discovered. I was in the woods with a friend today and what I found may change the world one day. As we walked, we could see how a creature like us, moving like lightning, ran in a circle like a predatory snake when it wanted to suffocate its prey. When he stopped in front of us we could see a real monster. He had red eyes and black veins under his eyes, and gleaming white fangs can be seen. He was hungry and we just helped him survive. My friend Carol attacked him with a twig that went through the monster's body, so I jumped out of there as fast as I could. Carol had stumbled and I could see with my own eyes that he had been bitten by that demon and killed mercilessly. After this incident, I realized that the only thing that could frighten the whole world is these blood-eating creatures.
Michel.
-That's a life story.
I look at her a little more and burst out laughing. I arch my right eyebrow.
"I know there's nothing funny about this whole thing." But let's face it, I've never heard of such a thing.
- I do. There are two stupid girls who have nothing to do here.
We both turn to the source of the voice giving the boy about my age with brown to black hair and eyes of a light blue is high enough to reach the shoulders wearing a wide black T-shirt that most likely covers the squares on the abdomen and a pair of jeans of the same color.
I swallow hard and take Julia by the hand and run up the stairs to the living room. He also appears in an instant next to us, growling worse than a wild animal. Slowly, he approached us and grabbed Julia's arm and pulled her away from me.
That's when I realized how bad I could be. More institutions came here knowing the risks and then when it was time to leave I stopped just a few steps away.
He slams Julia on the floor and then comes towards me.
"You haven't heard what happens to people coming in here."
He is now standing in front of me with protruding fangs and his blue eyes are now red and the veins in his eyes have stood out.
He said nothing more, but he stretched out his fangs again and prepared to kill. When his mouth came close to my neck, I saw only those white porcelain toothpicks, so strong, yet so fragile.
