THOUGHTS

A ledge of shale

Formed by sand

Hold a million memories.

Those at the bottom,

Compressed into a single page

Are blurred without meaning.

The baptism by fire is gone,

And the rushing river is only a stream

Rolling forever onward.

And wasn’t it just yesterday

That the child looked in awe

At a world askew without hands

To hold her from the brink

With thoughts and dreams stuck inside,

A brain just learning how to be human?

Now those night terrors are gone,

Given up with the passing of time.

Or are they only waiting for the final hours

When a Beatrice of my own

In male form leads me up the mountain?

Will I be allowed to follow him,

Or is it all a ruse where only atoms

End up floating in a silent void?

Science…

Faith…

The human form

Still unable to distinguish

Truth from reality.

But the essence is still there…

We are all star stuff, Either puffed out of a black hole And created in his image,

Or born to be forever asking

Until we let it go

And find another reality waiting,

Behind the door

Where memories of the past

Are nothing more than lessons to be learned…
