I like the storyline and really think you have a good idea here! Is this your first edit? I worked on my own book for three years and still didn't think it sounded right, so I edited it again and again. I also read a good book called Manuscript Makeover. The most important thing it said was this: read your story slowly out loud with no inflection or change of tone. If you hesitate or have to re-read, then try changing the phrasing around. WOW blew me away and it works.
