Chapter 1
On Wednesday night, I read Tolkien, and fell in love with Ents once again.
On Thursday night, I drank a glass of red wine
and got a little buzzed (it was a tall glass).
On Friday night, I read your words once more;
the words you sent by way of moonbeams.
On Saturday night, I charted a course
by following Judy Garland’s advice.
I arrived at your door in red slippers,
took your hand, clicked my heels,
and together we rode a rainbow made of stars.
On Sunday night, we smiled and said goodbye,
promising we’d do it all again.
On Monday night, I waited.
On Tuesday night, I searched for those same moonbeams everywhere.
On Wednesday night I looked down to find Tolkien,
and realized I’d only been dreaming that I’d been somewhere with you.
