On February 1st, 2005, I was born to Nicole Harmon and Keith Winston. My name was Kenneth Harmon, and I weighed 7 lbs and 4 ounces. My nursery was full of pink and purple because my parents were hoping to have a girl. They spent almost all of their baby savings on the nursey meaning that they didn't enough money to change it. Every piece of clothing, every accessory, every toy in my nursery was targeted toward baby girls.
At age 12, I told my mom that I wanted to start dressing like a girl because deep down, I felt like a girl. I didn't feel comfortable wearing these boy clothes and having my hair cut so short. It made me feel weird, and my mom understood. After I had told her, she took me shopping and let me pick out whatever pieces of clothing I wanted. She let me grow out my hair and made it look pretty with many different hairstyles. One day, she sat me down and ask me a very important question, "Do you want to change your name?" I was a bit taken aback because the topic of my name had not once crossed my mind. Thinking back, I'm glad that I decided on a name that matched the name that everyone called me. "Kennedy. I wanna change my name to Kennedy because I wanna keep my nickname.", I stated and my mom chuckled as if she knew that I was going to say that.
Age 14, I was entering high school. I wasn't a loner because I still talked to the people that I had went to middle school with. I remember walking into my Fashion Design class and seeing two students sitting at the two desks in the corner of the last row. They were cuddled up together, so I assumed that they were a couple. I walked to the desk next to theirs because they seemed the most friendly and they were because just as I had reached the desk, they had introduced themselves. "Hi! I'm Chanel Reynolds.", The girl said to me in a quiet tone. Back then, Chanel was the same as she is now in a fashion style sense.
Chanel wore only the finest clothing brands, which also included her namesake, Chanel by Coco Chanel. The boy next to her looked me up and down before introducing himself, "Hello, I'm Christian Liu." Christian also only wears his namesake, Christian Dior. Chanel had nudged Christian as if to scold him for looking me up and down. They both then had smiled at me and moved my desk so that I can sit in between them. That's when I knew that I had made some friends for life. It would be us against the cruel world.
