Chapter 1
There he goes again on his motorcycle and he probably has no idea that I even exist. I moved out here to Angel Town a month ago after leaving my abusive and controlling boyfriend of 2 years. My ex didn’t start to abuse me until about a year into our relationship and the first night he hit me he was a little drunk and barely remembers hitting me. It wasn’t until the next morning that he noticed my black eye and asked what happened to me and I told him and he didn’t believe me. I thought that it was just a genuine accident and it wouldn’t happen again, but I was wrong. He eventually realized that I was about to leave him because I got tired of being his punching bag and he threatened to kill me if I ever left him. It took me a little while to save up some money from the coffee shop where I work at and having to hide the money from my ex wasn’t easy. It doesn’t help that I have no living family and I have no friends since my ex became a control freak. One night I made his dinner and I was able to stir in some sleep medicine so I could finally escape and live a life of freedom and not having to worry about covering the bruises he would leave all over my body. After Mitch finished his dinner he immediately laid down on the couch and started to watch the sports channel and eventually passed out. I waited a good few minutes to make sure he was fully asleep before grabbing my stashed duffel bag and car keys. I have been needing a new car for awhile, but Mitch always said that I only need it to get to and from work. It’s a Red Toyota Camry from the 90s and the paint is faded and the ac doesn’t work most of the time, but it’s reliable enough for me to make my escape. I open the trunk to put away the duffel bag and I gently open the driver’s door and slide in. It is eerily too quiet and the only thing I can hear is my racing heart and heavy breathing. I put the keys in the ignition and start the car and my heart sinks into my stomach when it doesn’t start up right away. I want to cry and scream! I get out of the car and pop open the hood and I instantly notice that the battery is disconnected! I feel goosebumps all over my body and I notice that the front door to the house is open and I turn around and I am met with the coldest pair of blue eyes that I was hoping to never see again. ‘Going somewhere my love?’
