Summary

Milo and Jasper are two teenage boys. On paper, it seems like there's nothing off, even the implied romance. However, physically, there is a slight barrier. Milo isn't a physical human. He was cursed 2 and a half years ago, which made him ghost-like. Jasper is the only one who can see him, so together they have to find a way to break Milo's curse. Unfortunately, Milo ends up not being completely honest with Jasper. Will Milo's curse be broken, even after his original intentions are revealed? Or will Jasper leave him in the dust?

Chapter 1

My love life is perfect. We are perfect for each other. He is perfect for me. The way his curly, chocolatey hair curls around his ears, how his perfect golden skin radiates in the sun, how his soft, sweet, caring eyes sweep across the room, the confident strut in his walk- he is perfect. There’s just one sliiiiiight flaw in this story- I’m not exactly… alive.

Well, I mean, I am- I just don’t look the part. It's a long story, but basically I was blessed with a curse that, essentially, makes me a ghost. I expected the crazy lady would've told me how to break the damn curse, but nope! So I'm stuck this way for all of eternity. At least, until I find a way to break the curse. I've tried everything- attempting to die, ask people if they can see me, hear me, or feel me, see family and friends, look for other spirits, and nothing. Well, there's one thing that's in practice right now; true love. I know it sounds dumb, but it's my last choice.

I've ventured far and wide for the perfect companion- the perfect lover, and after months of searching the entirety of New York, New York, I have found him. Like a stalker, I've been following him. I know my entire situation sounds really really bad, and I sound hella creepy, but I've been stuck like this since I was 16. Given, the curse has made me unable to age at all, so I've been 16 for, like, 2 and a half years now, but still. I would like to be able to drink alcohol sometime soon. I'm kidding. Kind of. Seriously, I would like to get on with my life sometime soon.

My entire family thinks I'm either dead or kidnapped, my friends seem to have lost their happy attitudes, and the worst part? I can't catch up on my favorite k-drama. I can see everyone, but nobody can see me. For now. Oh, and did I mention the curse took away my ability to feel hungry or tired? I can't fucking eat or sleep. My assumed death was all over the news, claiming I was "The Boy Who Mysteriously Disappeared", and "I had such a bright future, I was taken oh so soon." Most people in my state would accept their fate, that they are stuck being a ghost forever, but I have so much to actually be a physical person for!

So, now I'm depending on this boy, who has no idea I exist, to save me. I've been stealthily following him for about a week and a half, and so far I have gathered the following information-

His name is Jasper and he is 17 years old. He lives with his mother, Helen, and his father, Ethan. He has two 12 year old sisters who are twins, Evelynn and Keila. However, I have yet to find out his last name. He seems to have a good friend who goes by the name Kaydence, they seem pretty close. I've also seen Kaydence with a girl, who I assume is his girlfriend. I could be wrong, though. He goes to this coffee shop every day and orders the same thing- an iced white chocolate caramel mocha with 2 pumps of vanilla. He is quite popular in school, due to him being exceedingly terrific at soccer, but at home he stays in his room all day. The man lives two separate lives!

And I have yet to actually see if he can help me. By that I mean, I have yet to test if he can see me. The requirements for the perfect lover were a boy, my age-ish, not an asshole, and can see me. Oh, and I guess he has to be attracted to boys, too. Jasper is, in fact, most of those things. He appears to be male, he is a year older than me, he seems very polite and sweet- and the other two requirements are TBD.

How am I gonna make my debut? I... honestly have no idea. It'll come to me sooner or later, though! For now, I'm gonna keep following him. That sounds really weird, so I should stop saying that.

In other words; everything is perfectly normal.

Jasper heads out the door, walking to the bus stop. I follow him from afar, stopping when he arrives at his destination. This short girl makes small talk with him, asking "are you Jasper Lynch, the soccer captain?" and "My name is Ashlee! I'm a sophomore." I guess I know his last name now. Jasper seems very friendly, but I swear I see a look of relief wash over him as he sees the bus pull around.

Off to school we go! I keep my distance, and luckily he doesn't seem to spot me. If he can see me at all. He hasn't looked in my direction, so I'm just being optimistic that he can see me, he just hasn't yet. He receives many high fives, smiles, and lots and LOTS of "hi Jasperrrrrr!"'s. I don't know how he lasts so long without breaking character. Him and Kaydence have every class together, and they're both on the soccer team.

Speaking of soccer, look at that; it's the end of the day, and it's time for the soccer team to practice like they do every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. They have a game on Saturday, so the energy out there is intense. I sit on the bleachers, far enough away so nobody can notice me. If anybody on that field can see me... They start stretching and I look up, staring at the clouds. I've learned to appreciate the sky these past few years.

Jasper calls out a few directions, and he looks very professional when he does it. The entire team seems to hang onto his every word. I've never been the leader type. I aspire to have the confidence Jasper has when he plays soccer- something about it is just so... endearing.

I watch as they kick the ball around the field, kicking my feet as a playful little kid would. It gets pretty boring pretty fast. I examine my surroundings. There's a bunch of empty bags and soda cans along the many rows of bleachers. If you listen, you can hear the bustling streets of the city not too far away. When I snap back to the field activities, I see Jasper staring right in my direction. Panicking, I smile and wave. I know he probably doesn't see me, but it's always worth a try. He keeps staring, and I must've been dreaming because he waves back.

It must be a coincidence, he doesn't see me. There's no way I searched for two and a half years, and the boy I've chosen to help after 4 months after my last failed attempt- is The One. It's too perfect to be true! I look around frantically, trying to see if there is anybody else who had waved at him, but I'm the only one on this side of the bleachers. I think he saw me!

I start to smile and get overwhelmed with joy. If he can see me, if this isn't a dream (not like I can, anyway), I may be able to get back to my life! Someone goes to Jasper and asks him something, but he just shakes his head. I wonder if they saw him wave at me. Can anyone else out there see me?

Soccer practice comes to an end, and then it's time for Jasper to get his daily coffee. Into the coffee shop he goes, he orders, then leaves. Now that I'm, like, 90% sure he can see me, I stay further away than usual. This ends up backfiring, because I lose him in a big crowd. Annoyed, I start to search for his apartment complex. Luckily, I find it after not too long. Due to my ghost-like ability, I can float up through the ceiling and into the apartment with ease.

Jasper's mother is cooking, and it's either Evelynn or Keila helping her. I can never tell the two apart, but the rest of the family can. I walk around, looking for Jasper's room. I find it and walk through the door. He doesn't see me right away, he's stringing away at his guitar. He's very content when he plays it, I find. I watch as he plays away, getting lost in thought. Jasper has two instruments- a guitar and keyboard. I wonder if he's any good at the keyboard like he is at guitar. I haven't seen him touch it yet. He stops playing and stretches, closing his eyes, and I hold my breath. This is it. Can he see me?

His eyes open back up and start at the floor where my feet are. He looks confused, blinks twice, then looks up. Straight at me. I smile nervously and wave. His eyes widen, and he flinches backwards.

"WHAT THE FUCK!?" He yells.
