{Rewritten} Chapter 1

Short? Yes. But I'll try to make the next chapter a little longer.

Azrael was tired already. It was his first day at a brand-new high school, yet it was radiating a deathly aura he only encountered few times before. He was well aware that this wasn’t a normal thing to be able to sense, but his family wasn’t normal either. Azrael was actually the most normal of the family, making him even more special for some reason. Each of his siblings and parents had a special gift. All the Wynter’s did. His sister Lilith could mend broken hearts and create soulmate bonds as long as the two people are compatible. His brother Azazel could bless or curse someone with a single look depending on their luck. His mother could tell the future up to 2 weeks at maximum, and his father could make someone forget anything he wanted them to forget, but all Azrael could do was sense vibes and learn information about everyone with a look. It was useful at times, but very limited according to his parents. But Azrael loved it, the so-called vibes he could feel, were actually little strings he could see, each one tying to a different fate, and a different person. While he was daydreaming, Lilith had gotten their schedules and was on the verge of slapping her brother.

“Azrael wake up, we’re going to be late.”

That snapped Azrael out of it as he grabbed his schedule and rushed out of the office to his first class.

---

It didn’t take long for Azrael to really hate the school. Everywhere he looked there was dark blue strings, signaling untrustworthiness, and to his horror, one certain student had a black string, signaling that this was where the feeling of death came from. Azrael had only seen others have those connected to them, but to be tied to someone with that string? Azrael shuddered, feeling the effects of the string take place. The one thing he never told his family, was that each string tied to him gave him an effect to help that string succeed. He suddenly hated his power, and he didn’t even know what he did to deserve being tied to such person. He endured the struggle until at last the lunch bell rang. Azrael quickly started to put away his things, he was nearly finished when he felt Demitri’s string come closer. When he turned around, Demitri was staring at him, as if he was waiting.

“Hello. I am Demitri South, I was wondering if you’d like to eat lunch with me?” Demitri asked smoothly, staring at Azrael as if daring him to refuse, and Azrael, who honestly did not want to die at such a young age, agreed. This of course, was a mistake, as Demitri apparently had no friends and led Azrael to a secluded spot.

“Are we even allowed to be here?” Azrael asked, looking at the overgrown weeds in the abandoned garden. Demitri waved off his concerns,

“It’s fine, no one even goes back here anymore, so we won’t be pestered by others.”

Somehow, that did not reassure Azrael, but Demitri didn’t pay any attention and kept going.

“Besides, since you’re new, it’s not like anyone would realize you’re missing from lunch.”

This made Azrael freeze.

“Actually…” Azrael trailed off, feeling the glare of Demitri pierce through his soul. Obviously, this dangerous being didn’t like being wrong. Azrael once again mourned his loss of a normal school year and was resigned to his fate of dealing with a potential murderer.
