Waking up this morning was a real pain in my ass. If there was one thing I hated most in life it definitely would be waking up early. I slowly turnover, flipping my phone over trying to get a small glimpse of the time. I turn back over groaning, realizing that it's earlier than I expected. With me just recently quitting my job and finishing school, I haven't really found anything to do in the meantime. I usually just slept through the day only waking up to eat and shower. Life was pretty simple for me. I just recently moved to North Carolina, so I didn't have any friends. On top of that I didn't exactly go to public school. Moving really impacted my life, and took a huge toll on me mentally. I wasn't friendless forever thanks to the help of apps meant for meeting new people. I had met a couple of people from my state but no one who had lived in the same city. That was until I met Jovanni. He was really sweet but we rarely talked. I enjoyed his company though. He made me feel not so friendless. Oh let me not forget the time he tried to hook me up with one of his friends, yeah never again. Even though he was the only person that I knew from my city, I was quite content with just having him as my only friend. The sound of my phone ringing snaps me out of my thoughts. I grab my phone looking to see who is calling me before picking up. My mom's contact photo is displayed on the screen. I sit up before answering the phone." Hello," I said trying to make it sound like I just didn't wake up.
" What are you doing?" Mom says waiting for me to answer.
" Well I'm about to take Atlas out, then I'm going to make myself some to eat and get ready for the day. Why?"
" Oh I was just seeing what you were up to what about the boys?"
" Um well Matteo is watching TV in their room, and Damari is most likely playing the game."
"And your sister?"
" She's still asleep." I say looking at my sister who is sleeping next to me.
" Alright I was just checking up on ya'll. I'm at work right now so I'll see ya'll when I get home. Love you."
" Okay. Love you too. Bye." I say before hanging up the phone.
I slide out of bed, slipping my shoes on before walking towards the door. I call for Atlas to come with me before opening the door and walking out. It's just like I said Matteo is watching TV in his room and Damari is playing the game. I head to the kitchen grabbing Atlas's leash clipping it to his collar. Heading to the front room door I tell Damari I'll be right back.
Taking Atlas out was one of my favorite things to do in the morning. It gave me time to clear my thoughts and think. Since I was always helping my mom I never really had any time to myself. Ever since I was 10 I was always helping my mom. At the age of 12 I was watching my younger sister and brother, at the time Matteo wasn't born yet. It was a lot of weight to carry at 12 but I wanted to do what I could to help my mom in any way possible. Even if that meant giving up my childhood to help take care of my siblings. Till this day I still help watch my siblings when I can.
Atlas comes up to me letting me know that he is ready to go back inside. We head to the front door I allow him to go in first before making my way inside. I take off his leash and place it back on the key rack next to the pantry.
" Damari do you want something to eat?" I called out, loud enough for him to hear me.
" No grandma cooked me some eggs, bacon, and toast earlier."
With that answer I grabbed a bowl from the cabinet placing it on the counter before grabbing a box of cereal off the top of the fridge. As I start to pour it in my bowl I get a notification. I look to see who it is. I sigh realizing it's just my cousin Nolani.
Nolani and I have always been close. Every chance of free time we got we were always together. Her house was like a second home for me. I always felt like we were more like sisters than cousins. We told each other everything. We never ever had a single fight with each other, especially when it came to guys. Nolani was always someone I could depend on, and that's something I will always be grateful for.
I finish pouring my cereal, before placing the box back on top of the fridge. I grabbed my phone, unlocking it to see what Nolani had sent me. I giggle at what she sent me, she always knows how to make me laugh so early in the morning. I grab the milk, and place my phone back on the counter. I pour the milk in my bowl, but almost spill it when my phone goes off again. Putting the milk down, I close it and place it back in the fridge. I grab a spoon, placing it in my bowl before grabbing my phone. My face lights up seeing Jovanni's name pop up on my screen. I opened his message and
Jovanni: Good Morning <3
Amira: good morning :)
I'm so glad we are friends. His text is the most important one of the day. It makes me feel all warm inside when I text him. I wouldn't call it a crush, but I definitely feel something for him.
