Chapter One

Being invisible, an introvert, was easy. No talking, no drama . . . I was in my own little world. Until I met him. Beautiful straight and luscious jet-black hair, brown eyes, a cute button nose, full lips, and a very terra-cotta skin color. He wasn’t short but he wasn’t tall either. He stands at 5’4 whereas I am 5’0 with straight burgundy red hair, same beautiful chocolate brown eyes, cute button nose, full lips, and warm tan skin.

Hi, my name is Heaven, (yes, that is my name). I was at my best friend’s new business, a coffee shop she and April, another best friend of mine, opened called The Steam Room. I was on my way to work, coffee in hand, wearing a white peasant blouse with a black one-button jacket and black pants with a pair of black mid stiletto heels with a strap on my ankle, when I turned around, suddenly (and accidentally) bumping into a gorgeous man named Sean Diaz, dropping everything in my purse including my coffee.

“Oh, my gosh, I am so sorry. I’m so clumsy,” I said as my drink spilled onto his navy-blue suit and white dress shirt with a navy-blue tie, revealing his beautifully toned six-pack. Woah, now that is hot, I thought, my eyes bulging out of their sockets. We both bent down to pick up my things when I couldn’t hold myself up anymore and fell forward, knocking him over. Damn it why did I have to be so damn heavy? I weighed 175 lbs., and, at my current height, I was severely overweight.

He chuckled as he got up and, helping me up, brushed himself off. “It’s fine, this always happens. That’s why I bring a spare suit in my car.” He looked at me, smiling. “Let me pay for your drink.”

“Hey, I spilled it on you, I should pay for myself. Besides, you should change.” I leaned forward. “Everyone is staring,” I whispered.

“It’ll only take a second.” He leaned in. “Besides, how many gentlemen still stand in the world?” he whispered. After he paid, the barista brought me my usual, a Strawberry Açai Refresher. He asked the barista to put his name and number on the cup along with my name.

“Thanks,” I told her as she handed me my drink. I immediately turned around, almost knocking myself over again and we locked eyes again. This fire lit up inside me whenever our eyes connected.

“Do you want to sit down?” he asked. I nodded. Instead of going to work early, like I always did, I decided to accept his offer and we sat down in a nearby booth, chatting away as if we had known each other our whole lives.

“So, where do you live?” I asked him.

“I live in the Skyline Loft Apartments down the street.”

“What a coincidence! So do I.” Unfortunately, my watch beeped, cutting our conversation short. Ugh, now? Damn it! “I’m sorry, but I have to go, or I’ll be late for work.” I walked to my car. Shit, he never got my number. Too late. I really had to go to work. At least I have his, right? I work as an architect, but my dream is to become a stay-at-home contemporary romance writer.

I wrote my cell number on the back of one of my business cards and I went back inside to the coffee shop, leaving it with my best friend, April, pointing out Sean so she could give it to him as I hurriedly left to go to work.

Traffic was terrible but I finally got to work. Stupid commute. As I got into the building, I noticed that there was someone there looking for me. “Can I help you?” I asked him.

“Yes, I have a package here for someone named Heaven Jenkins.”

“That’s me.” He handed me a big black box with a red bow on it. “Thank you.”

He left and I decided to check who sent it. It was Sean! My heart started glowing. I wonder what it is, I thought. I went outside to my car, and, putting the box into the passenger seat, didn’t think much of it. After I went back inside and got into the elevator, I headed to my desk and started working.

In the evening, I went home, looking forward to my dinner of Crispy Cod with Sweet Potato Fries. But as I was getting ready to start dinner, someone knocked at my door. When I opened it, I noticed that no one was there yet right there in front of me was a wicker basket filled with dark chocolate covered almonds, baked taro chips, Sheila G’s brownie brittle, and another Strawberry Açai Refresher. I grabbed the snacks and drink, bringing them inside. There was a note on the bag that read, From Sean. Will you go out with me?

“Aww, that was sweet of him,” Suddenly, I heard a knock on my door and there he was, standing in front of me. “What are you doing here?” I asked.

“I wanted to see if you got my note.”

“I did, thank you.”

“You’re welcome. I’m sorry for bothering you, you must be tired from work.”

“Nonsense, I’m fine.”

“Are you sure? I don’t want to impose.”

He was wearing a lightweight raincoat and I just realized it was raining but I didn’t hear anything since I got home from work before the rain started. My apartment walls are also soundproof. “Oh, yeah. I’m sorry.” I blushed. “I didn’t realize it was raining. You must be freezing.”

“It’s fine.” He put his coat on the coat hanger while I closed the door and we both sat on the couch. I quickly grabbed a blanket and put it on both of our laps. “So, Heaven, how’d you get your name?”

I breathed deeply and chuckled. “I don’t know; my dad just saw me and gave me the first thing that popped into his head. He and my mom divorced when I was 18. Infidelity.”

“Well, I think your name is beautiful.”

“Thank you.” I smiled. “And thank you for the food. I didn’t think that there was someone else who loves a Strawberry Açai Refresher as much as I do.”

“Well, that makes two of us.” Just like that, four hours go by, and it was getting late. It was already 10 p.m.

“Well, I have to go. Early morning tomorrow. Have a goodnight, Heaven.”

“Goodnight, Sean.” He leaned over, kissed me on the cheek and left. I felt a slight tingle, but I couldn’t explain it even if I tried. It was as if my heart exploded the moment I felt his lips on my skin.
