Chapter 1
It's the start of your second year in college and you decided to take up a few extra classes. One of which was a self-defense class taught by some transfer students that agreed to teach it for a full ride to their choice of classes. The other class you picked up was an EMT basic program. It covered trauma, respiratory management, cardiac arrest, and trained you to use suction devices, oxygen delivery equipment, defibrillators and backboards. Crime was starting to spike now that people were beginning to develop these things called quirks. Not many people had them but more and more people were discovering they did and there wasn’t enough people defending the city with quirks to protect them from the people attacking it. As you sit down in your chair and pull out your textbook and journal, your best friends Fumikage and Mina sit down on the left side of you. Both had quirks but weren't interested in using them much. Fumikage who preferred to be called Tokoyami had a quirk called Dark shadow. His quirk allowed him to manifest a shadow monster from his body that he can materialize and contract freely. Dark Shadow's energy is limited though and can be drained by any source of bright light whether man made or natural like the sun. When it runs out of energy, Dark Shadow retracts back into Tokoyami's body. Tokoyami's quirk is strongest in complete darkness but can also become out of control and take over Tokoyami, so he tends to stay out of complete darkness. Mina's quirk is acid, it allowed her to produce a corrosive liquid from her body that she could control the solubility and viscosity of. But she was also limited cause the acid would begin to break down her skin as well once it loses its natural resistance. The only time you've seen her use it is when she created a non-corrosive liquid and covered her feet to slid down a railing at the college your first year, she got in some major trouble for that. It wasn't for using her quirk, mainly because she could of hurt herself or others. Tokoyami and you have been friends for years. He went to your grade school, he was a year older. He looked at you like a little sister, picked on you like an older brother would. Mina met the two of you in middle school, you guys have been best friends ever since. As they both put their books down, Mina smiled and excitedly asks "So have you seen the hotties that transferred here”. Tokoyami rolled his eyes, "Not everyone scopes out transfers the first day back mina" You let out a chuckle "C'mon Tokoyami, she's just keeping up with what's new. And no, I haven't seen them." Tokoyami smirked "Yeah too bad she only keeps track of the new bodies instead of what's actually important." Mina glared at Tokoyami "What's wrong jeal..." The doors opened and walked in was Dr. Chiyo Shuzenji. "Good morning everyone, open your textbooks to chapter one and begin to read the first section, any questions, write them down and in 15 minutes I will have everyone tell me their questions and I will answer them. Remember, there are stupid questions and they will be answered with stupid answers but I would rather you ask them and be educated than not ask them and do something incorrect in a time of crisis so with this being our first day, every and all questions you have, no matter the-" The doors open again and in the doorway stood 4 men. Mina nudged you "Hey those are the transfers, I didn't know they took this class." Welcome to class, better late than never. I'm Dr. Chiyo Shuzenji and if you would like to join my class please take a seat." The green haired kid nodded, "I'm terribly sorry, we got a little turned around and lost between classes so I apologize for our-" The blonde haired kid smacked the green hair kid in the back of the head and growled "Shut up you damn nerd, she don't fucking care!" "Correct Mr. Bakugou. Now if you and your friends would take a seat and open your books to the first chapter and begin to read, we could resume class." Mina nudged you "Aren't they cute!" You looked up for a moment then looked away. You were too focused on reading the section assigned, so you didn't pay much attention. "Huh? Oh, yeah totally..." Mina closed your textbook "You didn't even look." You sighed and looked up. Tokoyami reached over mina and opened your textbook back up "Mina not everyone puts their sexual desires ahead of their school work. So leave her-" "Y/N!!!" Everyone fell silent. Your face began to redden as you realized everyone was looking at you. You turn around and noticed the transfers were walking towards you on the right. "Eijiro?" You said in a dubitable voice.. "Y/n!" The red spiky haired guy shouted while walking towards you. "Eijiro Kirishima if you would please take your seat and continue your friendly reunion on your own time, my class and I would appreciate it, If you cannot contain your excitement, you and Y/n may step out of my class and return tomorrow after you have decided to stop being a disturbance." Kirishima nodded his head "My apologies." The blonde had already walked around and sat over at a seat to the left of you a couple from Tokoyami. He kicked out the chair next to Tokoyami "Hey shitty hair, come take a seat before you get us expelled, you can have your reunion later." Kirishima rolled his eyes at the blonde, "Yeah, yeah, I'm coming." "Ok, now everyone please return to your readings and we’ll discuss them in a few moments" Dr. Chiyo said as she wrote down points she wanted to make sure to go over.
The class went by relatively quick and you had a free period next to give you some time to study a little more thoroughly and ask any questions about the chapter that was assigned. Tokoyami took his free period the same time as you while Mina was going to be heading to her psychology class. As everyone stood up and shuffled out of class, Tokoyami looked at mina "Hey pinky, meet us back at the squad when you've finished with your psychology class." Mina waved her hand in the air as she finished picking up her books while you and Tokoyami headed for the door. As you stand behind some kids waiting to get through the door you looked at Tokoyami "So I'm assuming you'll be asking who Eijiro is?" Tokoyami smiled "Yeah actually, I've never seen him before and we've been friends since grade school? So I'm not sure how he would know you and I wouldn't know him." You chuckled "I don’t tell you all my secrets. We met when my parents went camping one year. Do you remember the year I went camping for an entire summer?” Tokoyami nodded “Yeah you were like a preteen” “He was in the camping lodge beside us. He goes by Kirishima. I had a crush on him the entire summer, we were pretty much inseparable. But he lived west and I lived east, we tried keeping in touch through letters but school and growing up happened and well I guess we lost contact and just got caught up in life and we never reached out again." Tokoyami looked at you "Why didn't you ever tell me about him, I would of helped you keep in touch with him if you cared that much about him?" You smiled "Cause I liked you a lot too and I didn't wanna mix the feeling up. So I let both crushes go and I built a friendship with you that became unbreakable, I can't imagine my life without you." Tokoyami looked at you shocked "So you had a crush on me all these years?" You smiled as you walked through the doorway and into the hall "No, I let go of the want for a relationship when I realized if things ended badly I'd lose what we have now, and I don’t know if I could mentally handle losing you compl-" "Y/N!" You jumped as arms were thrown around you. Tokoyami jumped "Dude, what the fuck." Kirishima laughed "Long time no see my pebble." You let out a loud giggle "Kirishima!!! It's been so long! You're hair has changed." Kirishima laughed and let go of you "Yeah, I changed it before high school. Why, don't you like the red?" You grabbed his hand as he began walking down the hall through the crowd of students, "I love it, fits your spicy personality. I'm headed to the library to study with...Toyokami?" You look around and Tokoyami isn't in sight. "Tokoyami? Tokoyami!!" Dark shadow came through the crowd and grabbed you pulling you away from Kirishima. Kirishima panicked for a moment not knowing what just grabbed you. Kirishima pushed his way through the crowd with his hardening quirk following the black figure that grabbed you. Bakugou, Deku, Shoto all responded similar after seeing their friend in such a panic.. The three of them shifted their attention to dark shadow who had you tucked in its grasp. Deku ran through the group of students trying to reach you, Kirishima and Bakugou not far behind. Dark shadow put you back down by Tokoyami. "Well what was that about?" You asked Tokoyami? "I don't know enough about the four of them to leave you unsupervised but between the four of them and the students, I couldn't push my way through to get your attention. Then I heard you yelling my name so I sent dark shadow after you. You throw your arms around Tokoyami wrapping him into a hug. Kirishima, Deku Bakugou and Todoroki finally made it through the crowd of college students locating you.
"Are you ok pebble!" Bakugou scuffs "She looks fine to me, looks like it was just her boyfriend coming to her rescue." You looked at Bakugou "Umm, he's not my boyfriend, he's my best friend, we've been best friends since before grade school. Kirishima, this is Tokoyami." Kirishima smiled "THAT'S TOKOYAMI!!!! Dude I heard so much about you in her letters. Man she had the biggest crush on you!" "Kirishima!!!" You said with embarrassment flooding you face. Tokoyami laughed "Yeah, I just learned that! But I wasn’t the only one, she didn't tell me about you cause she was worried I'd get jealous she liked you." Kirishima and Tokoyami laughed together. "Well this is our free period to set up for Self-defense class training for next period, if you guys would like to join us there while we set up, we can catch up." You looked at Tokoyami and nodded sure as the six of you headed towards the gym. Tokoyami looks at you and you smiled "Well now we know who's teaching us self-defense next period, but the teachers name I seen was Katsuki?" As they reached the gym kirishima turned around "Wait so you didn't sign up for my class, well there were 4 teachers and three of us but in the same location so we all chose a different teacher so we could take it together. I picked Katsuki.. So who's that?" Deku walked to the back, Shoto and Bakugou followed not far behind to help grab mats to lay them out. Kirishima smirked "Here let me introduce everyone and explain quirks. Guy! Get out here for a minute.” As the guys came out of the office area Kirishima began to explain. “The green haired one is Izuku Midoriya but he goes by Deku. His quirk is kind of a couple things, he's abnormally strong and also has a thing called black whip. We won't be using our quirks on campus unless told to or for defense. The red and white haired guy is Shoto Todoroki, His left can produce fire and his right can produce ice. The blonde is your teacher my little pebble. Thats Katsuki Bakugou! He's has quite the temper on him so stay on his good side if you can find it. His quirk is explosion. He can-" An explosion went off in Bakugou's hand. "I secrete nitroglycerin like sweat from the palms of my hand and can ignite it on command which allows me to create some extreme explosions. The more I sweat the stronger the explosion but the stronger the explosion the faster my forearm starts to ache from the kick back of the explosions. Are we done now, we need to set up and if she's my student I'd like to take this time to see one on one where she's at with self-defense and how much she's going to need training." Kirishima smiled "Yes bakugou, you can have her, PLAY NICE!"
You walk over to Bakugou "So what would you like me to do." Bakugou glared at you "Don't waste my time, if you're just here to screw around like every other quirkless extra then get out of my face, but if you're actually willing to learn then try to defend yourself." Bakugou began to attack you. "Oh shit!" You yelled out of surprise. Tokoyami turned around "What the hell man! Dark shadow went to intervene, but a small explosion went off pushing him back, you became distracted and Bakugou hit you and you hit the ground and blacked out. "DON'T INTERFERE WITH MY TRAINING BIRD BOY!" Tokoyami and Kirishima ran to your side. "She wasn't even ready, you just attacked her." Tokoyami said as he picked you up. "Yeah man, you got to let someone know before you attack them." Kirishima said agreeing with Tokoyami. Bakugou scuffed "Oh yeah, because on the street before someone attacks you they're gonna yell "Hey I'm gonna mug you, so get ready to defend yourself." Like do you hear how stupid you two sound. She needs to always be ready, now get out of my way and I'll take her in the back office and get her some water." Tokoyami looked at Bakugou then looked at Kirishima "Go ahead Tokoyami, he has a point, plus they will only be in the office right off the gym so she won't be far." Tokoyami handed you off to bakugou as you began to come back into consciousness. "If you hurt her, I will find you and I will destroy you." Bakugou rolled his eyes as his walked towards the office "Calm down bird boy, I'm supposed to teach her, not kill her, I only hit her so she knew this class was serious and I needed her to take it seriously. I didn't need her thinking it was a fuck off class and social hour because of you two being here and pinky when she shows."
Bakugou takes you to the office and lays you down on the bench. You finally regain consciousness but quickly became confused at where you were, but you were more shocked he hit you so hard. "Here's some water and ice. I do apologize for hitting you so hard but I just want you to understand how serious self-defense is and be aware that your attacker is never going to warn you before they attack and wait for you to become prepared, although I can forget my strength sometimes and go a little overboard." You smiled "I had no intentions on slacking in this class, I really wanna learn how to fight but if you don't mind I'm gonna go for a walk." Bakugou opened the emergency exit door to allow you out to the back wooded trail. "I'll be back before class starts, I just want some fresh air.." Bakugou nodded and shut the door behind you. He walked out to the gym, "Where's Y/n?" Kirishima asked "Is she ok" Tokoyami said with worry on his face. "She's fine, she went for a walk, I came out to tell you and to let you know I'm going to follow her, I wanna make sure she doesn't get hurt." Tokoyami glared at Bakugou "Maybe I should go, you've done enough." "She's my student, I will follow her, you have training to do."
As you walk through the woods, you can't stop your heart from fluttering. "Why was he so cute!! But he's so annoying, thinking he some fucking hot shot. He's a dick!" You walk deep into the woods until you come upon a large pond and sit down. You looked around you to see if anyone was around. You began to focus, "Mizuchi kite (Mizuchi, Come)" The water began to glow and move. Bakugou finally caught up to you but he noticed the water glowing and then seen something move. Slowly a dragon surfaced the water. "Holy fuck, she has a quirk!!" Why doesn't she tell anyone? Or does bird boy know?" Bakugou began to step back to avoid being seeing but he stepped on a pile twigs and leaves that snapped under the pressure of his foot. The dragon looked over turning towards the direction of the noise. "Sorera o mitsukemasu (find them)" You said quietly. The dragon flew directly into the air and out of sight.. Bakugou continued to back away. After taking three big steps back, he felt a gust of warm air on the back of his neck, he let out a sigh followed with "Fuck". As he turned around the dragon let out a low growl. Bakugou released a few small explosions in his hand "You're not the only one that has a fancy ability." Bakugou jumped through the woods trying to avoid Mizuchi. Muzuchi swerved in and out of the trees escaping the sight of Bakugou. Bakugou chuckled "Stupid overgrown lizard." Bakugou continued moving without explosions not sure which direction he landed but trying to avoid being detected again. You walk through the woods to find your dragon. "Bakugou?" Bakugou turned around to find Mizuchi face to face with him, you following not far behind him. "You mind getting your water lizard out of my face." "Mizuchi, kite." The dragon returned towards you. You placed your hand on the dragons head "Go eat, Mizuchi" Bakugou looked at the dragon "So you have a dragon as a quirk?" The dragon moved through the tree back to the water and disappeared under the surface, "Yes, I have a quirk that allows to me summon ancient creatures, that includes Mizuchi, the Japanese water serpent. I also have a Phoenix I've named apollo, and a Lynx named Mafdet. Mafdet is more like my house cat, he watches for intruders. he can be small or in battle he could be the size of me." Bakugou chuckled "That's not very large short stuff." "he'd kick your ass." You snapped back. "Why did you follow me anyway, I said I was gonna go for a walk aka I wanted to be left alone." "You're my student and I wanted to make sure you weren't hurt." Bakugou replied mildly irritated with your tone. "I'm not technically your student until next period, so right now you're just some creep following me through the woods." You replied as you walked away. Bakugou grabs your arm "Listen short shit, I'm here to learn what I need to learn and try to help people learn self-defense, this world isn't getting any nicer and not everyone is lucky like us and have quirks." You scuffed and pulled your arm away "LUCKY? How are we lucky, half of us get praised for our quirks and the rest of us get bullied. Tokoyami was bullied almost his entire school life, I was his only friend until we met mina in middle school, and she was bullied for her weird horns and pink skin. Tokoyami was bullied for his bird head, they called him bird brain or bird boy. They treated them terribly, so when I figured out I had a quirk and could hide it, I did. You may have been treated like a god at your school but where we grew up, people with quirks are bullied, so no were not "Lucky". Why do you think Tokoyami protects me the way he does? Because it's been us against the world for 17 years now!" Bakugou looked at you surprised "I didn't know people were bullied for their quirks, I figured anyone with a quirk would be treated better than the quirkless extras this worlds filled with." Tokoyami walked with Kirishima towards the woods to get you since free period was almost over. Tokoyami heard shouting and he looked at Kirishima and they both began running towards the arguing. "Yeah, well you figured wrong! Not everyone had your cushy ass life." "Hey what the hell is going on?" Kirishima asked while walking towards you. "Nothing just a misunderstanding is all, right bakugou?" You said in a calm tone. Tokoyami walks towards Bakugou "Seems like you're doing that a lot hot head." "How about you back the fuck off Bird bo..." Bakugou looks at you and then back at Tokoyami. "It was just a big misunderstanding. She just wanted her space, and I guess I shouldn't of invaded it considering we just met." Kirishima looked at Bakugou with confusion. You walked towards Tokoyami "Come on Tokoyami, I'll race you back to the squad, we gotta met Mina there!" Tokoyami chuckled after he watched you take off in a sprint "That's cheating I wasn't even ready!!" You yell behind you "ALWAYS EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!" "What was that about Bakugou?" Kirishima asked Bakugou confused. "Don’t worry about it shitty hair. Go easy on bird boy, apparently they hard it rough growing up... I guess their town didn't like people who had quirks." Kirishima's face changed to shock. "Wait, does she have a quirk?" Bakugou started to walk back towards the college "Not that I've seen no. But she's befriended you, pinky and the bir..Toyokami.. So obviously she's not like the quirkless extra she grew up around.
