Chapter 1

Story(The midnight shadows)

No changing what others wrote!

-+-+ means new character/setting/ point of view

The star filled night sky reflected off the mirror like surface of the lake. Then the surface rippled and a slim hand carved oar slipped into the water. The oar was insignificant if you did not know what was happening on that far shore on the other side of that lake. An oar lifted out then went in again pushing the gliding boat across the lake. In the small, swift boat sat a black hooded person. Their frame was thin and slender. If you could see their face through the hood, which hid the face completely, if you could see the face you would see one seemingly out of place for such a dainty person. The person that it belonged to was so young and their eyes were the brightest blue, full of intelligence. Which made the face seem even more out of place for it was covered in scars. Silently, the boat reached the shore. With the grace and balance of a ballerina the cloaked figure leaped out of the boat. It paused for a moment listening for any far off or close dangers, which it already was ready to face. But none came and they then nimbly it set of down a well worn track.

The boat was wooden and made from an old oak tree back on the other side of the lake that fell down in a storm one night. The seats were covered with a blanket that was made from cotton plants that were often scattered around the edge of the coast. There was a small wooden box at the front of the boat made from the same fallen oak tree that made a clanging noise every time the boat moved. Could something be alive in there?

Suddenly she heard something and turned back. When she looked into the boat there was nothing to be seen. She began to feel curious about what was going on around her so she came closer to the boat the little box moved then it stopped for a second or two then began moving again. It made quite a sound when it moved up and down but the small brown wooden box became silent as soon as the figure cane closer and closer something inside her told her to look but she tried her hardest to ignore the thought. The figure started to walk away from the boat she heard the sound again this time she was too curious to not go look so she comes closer to the boat lifts up the lid and sees a small creature which reminded her of a shadow fox, her mother used to tell her about the mythical creatures that only live in the deep deep forest, but this one was different it had a white paw.

These creatures no longer only live in forests but in the entire rest of the world now the shadows have taken over. This one had been touched by light. Usually they would spread darkness and decay but not this one because it was touched by light.

Sickening gasses hung in the air over the desolate shadowy wasteland. There through the smog was a tall striking figure who was exceptionally pale, in front of him stood a quivering figure and the man spoke to the figure in a quiet threatening voice

“what do you mean someone has escaped” demanded the shadow king

“It was j...j...just a g...g...girl” his lieutenant stuttered

“ just a girl! Just a girl!” He shouted and then sinisterly quietly he said “If you let one more just a girl go… you know what I’ll do don’t you?” As he slowly pushed the lieutenant towards a beam of light. The lieutenant gulped and nodded.

“Good now I don’t want any rebellions in my country find those girls parents... and you’ll know what to do when you find them.” With that the shadow king let him go and the lieutenant ran of to do his bidding as if his life depended on it. Because it did!

Back near the coast to the dark forest the young elf like figure was stood with the new creature or shadow fox species. As she looked amazed at the creature she heard a strange rustle come from a bush that was followed by something similar to a howl but not. She opened the bush to see a black creature with white paws similar to that she had found. She went back to the box and looked at the other one to compare them. The only difference between the two creatures was the amount of white on there paws. I wondered if that could show what type of shadow fox they were.

She picked them up one at a time then she placed them down on the cold, damp seats of the boat to take a closer look. They looked identical except from the little white spots they had on their paws. The first one she found had one paw that was white the other one had all its paws covered in white.

The two foxes looked at each other and then away and then back again at each other. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere, they both started leaping around. The elf like creature was confused and didn’t know what was happening. She asked them “what happened that you are so happy” she thought they would understand but it would be silly if they did. But they did! They started howling in response as if to say something.
