Spring

Spring was in the air. A lone young man walked through the park admiring all the beautiful sights and sounds of nature around him. The bright colors of the flowers, the cheerful songs of the birds, the cooling vernal breeze wisping through the air. There were many other people in the park that day as well, many of them couples enjoying one another’s company. The young man had often longed for someone to share that sort of companionship with, but thus far, had not had any such luck. He sighed, wishing he could find a loving person to enjoy this wonderful season with.

Just then, something caught his attention. A girl in a beautiful green sundress running around the lush grassy fields with her arms spread out, laughing like a playful little child even though she looked to be about the same age as him. The girl stopped and looked at him with a smile. “Hey, you! Yeah, you! Come over here!” she shouted, beckoning him over to her. Fascinated, the young man obliged. When he introduced himself and tried to shake her hand, she instantly pulled him along into her sporadic frenzy.

Her name was Trina. She spent the whole day playing with him and showing him all of her favorite things. She seemed to have a special enthusiasm for nature, particularly flowers and animals. She would often try to make friends with the various birds, squirrels, and other small creatures that she came across. She also kept stopping to sniff every flower in sight. Some of them made her sneeze, but even that never slowed her down. “Don’t you think you should avoid the ones you’re allergic to?” asked the young man.

“Nah. It’s not that bad. Besides, they all smell way too wonderful to ignore,” she answered. The young man couldn’t help but admire her unwavering appreciation.

As the day began to wind down, eventually, so did Trina’s seemingly boundless energy. She and the young man lay down on the grass together and smiled at one another. He had to admit, while he hadn’t foreseen his day turning out like this, he was incredibly happy to have met this exuberant young woman.

Then, out of nowhere, Trina grabbed his face with both hands and pulled him in for a full-blown kiss. The young man blushed hard, surprised, but not unhappy. Trina giggled, amused at his reaction to her sudden display of affection. “Didn’t see that one coming, did ya?” she teased. Once he got over the initial shock, the young man smiled and laughed along with her.

After that, the two young lovers spent the entire rest of the season together. Sometimes, they would have picnics on the grass with Trina usually providing sandwiches for both of them. And sometimes, they would go for long nature walks together. Trina just loved to point out all the different species of birds they encountered and the young man loved hearing her talk about them with such passion. The young man was very happy to finally have a love of his very own.

Then, one day, when Springtime was drawing to a close, the young man sat waiting for Trina at their usual meeting spot in the park. He sat there for what felt like hours, but Trina never showed up. Eventually, he gave up and decided to walk home, alone, heartbroken, and confused.
